Good Morning Everyone! I hope you’re all okay, I’ve been up for about an hour now, it’s about to be 8:30am, by the time I finish this post it might be a bit past that time, who knows…..anyway I don’t know how many of you are familiar with the movie/musical Phantom Of The Opera, yes I know there’s a Broadway show to it as well, but I have only ever known and watched the movie so the Broadway show won’t be mentioned much here!
If some of you know of this musical then you’ll know what I’m talking, if not that’s okay, but if you would like me to explain a bit, well then I’ll do my best…..Phantom of The Opera originally it’s based off a Broadway play, but it later turned into a movie/musical…..it’s quite an interesting one and I don’t know how well I’ll be able to describe it, but to put it into short words, You have this girl whose name is Christine who is obsessed with this voice I guess, I’m not going to lie to you I never quite understood the concept of this play turned musical movie, I just always liked watching the movie and hearing the songs I’d always watch it with my brother on occasions, we’d love watching it when we were younger!
We don’t watch it much these days, but I’d still consider it a favorite if not that, It was always a movie that I enjoyed watching….but anyway, back to the explanation of this movie…..Yeah so Christine, she’s obsessed with this Phantom guy, but mainly because of his voice and the Phantom guy is obsessed with Christine who is engaged to another man…..that’s pretty much the round up of the movie, I mean there’s more to it of course, but it’s the only way I can explain it really!
Now onto why I want to talk about the Phantom Of The Opera, so as we all know we are in the Spookiest of months right now, everyone’s favorite season except for mine Halloween, unless we’re talking about the Halloween event in my favorite game Animal Crossing then…..well I got mixed feelings on that one, but we’re not here to talk about Animal Crossing, not yet anyway, soon though!
We’re slowly, but surely nearing the Halloween event and I know most people are probably looking forward to getting all dressed up and going out to get candy and what not, I’m not really sure how most people will celebrate it this year, however they choose, I just hope everyone enjoys themselves and most importantly that they stay safe! I’m getting off track here aren’t I!? Right….caring on, reason to why I want to talk about this beautiful movie musical…..
We are at the peak of Halloween, it’s closely around the corner and so for this month, I’ve been slightly challenging myself to have a theme so I can write more and record more! Out of all the months that I get most inspiration, October has literally screamed at me and so I thought this could work, let’s see if we can make things interesting! I’ve been sharing recently anything that gives me Halloween vibes, it doesn’t have to be exactly Halloween, it just has to feel like it and Phantom Of The Opera gives me HUGE “yeah this can go well with the Halloween season”
I recently found out that it actually released during the Halloween season at least the novel did…..it fact it just had an anniversary this past Saturday the 9th of October, true facts! 35 years that we were given this gift and you want to know what else I learned!? Apparently it’s meant to be a Graphic Horror…..how did I not know that!? I’m not sure, but let’s just say I knew that from the beginning to save time…..35 years is a long time I mean it’s older than the Nightmare Before Christmas and that movie just turned 28 TODAY!! like right now today…..can you believe that!?
I like how meant to be focused on Phantom Of The Opera, but I keep mentioning other things…..sorry about that I just can’t help, but mention these things! Really I just wanted to talk about the soundtrack of this movie, it literally screams Halloween…..anytime I just hear the Phantom Of The Opera theme song, I always would say to myself how you could add that to a playlist with other similar songs that just give you that spooky sound or just reminds you of the season of Halloween! It’s a such a good soundtrack though Phantom Of The Opera, also the two leads to that movie did fantastic together, both have amazing voices and I kind just want to watch the movie now at this point, I’ll try and watch it soon!
If you ever listen to the Phantom Of The Opera soundtrack then you’ll also feel the familiarity that it brings to this season! There’s a lot of songs that will sound like they were made around the month of October just because they give you those horror type of sounds to them, but also it could just be that they fit well and probably should’ve been made during the month of October, but I guess that’s why playlists were invented so you add things to them that remind you of a certain holiday event, that bring back certain memories or just because you need a bunch of songs to help pick you during the day!
Regardless Phantom Of The Opera is quite the musical/movie and recently just found out about Novel and I can’t believe it’s 35 years old, like it’s still young, but goodness 35 years!? That’s mind blowing right there, by the way I have never read the novel if it weren’t obvious, I didn’t even know there was a novel for it, I always thought it was a musical play only turned movie, but then again most of these musical plays come from books sooo I don’t know why I’m so surprised….Happy 35th Anniversary POTO!!
Yeah I know, what is this you might ask!?…well if you didn’t already know this is Sharpay’s spin off movie, Ashley Tisdale’s character from the High School Musical franchise movies, some of you probably never heard of it and some of you maybe have, but most likely forgotten about it at the same time and that’s alright, sometimes I find myself forgetting about it too, what keeps reminding me of it is a specific song from the movie I like called New York’s Best Kept Secret, which we will talk on a little later, that is if this post doesn’t end up being very long!! If it does then we’ll just make a part two focusing on the Soundtrack and have this be the movie review of it, right now the title includes both movie thoughts and soundtrack review, but if by the end of me writing this, I feel this has been a little too long of a post, it’ll be changed to movie thoughts.
Now to get straight into it…..let’s give our thoughts on the movie itself and see how well I do with this, movie reviews aren’t really my usual thing, but I thought i’d give it a go and see how I do with it, plus there was some things in the movie that I couldn’t help, but want to share when I revisited this slight hidden gem a couple of days ago….depending on if you watched it or even liked it to call it that, I however will, because I have a soft spot for it, even though I rarely watch it, it’s a once in a blue moon kind of movie for me when I want to feel nostalgic in a way……but let’s talk about it!!
Movie Review Time
Alright so based off memory, the movie starts with a song obviously, this song being Gonna Shine and i’m not gonna lie, even writing that out makes me cringe, reason being is because I can hear the song in my head and it’s just not my tune….i’ll explain it fully later when I talk about the soundtrack as a whole, but to continue on which in a way i’m happy with, after Sharpay’s performance, we follow her backstage where her parents are raving about how well she did on stage which she loves cause she’s Sharpay….during the gathering backstage,
She gets approached by a what I believe is a casting agent for broadway, which she always dreamed of starring in telling her about a play he’s doing and all the exchanging of information that they do, now this is where we switch it up, because it was this part of the movie where I realized something very important that I didn’t notice before when I watched originally, plus a few times after of course and that everyone is the fact that JOEY JEREMIAH (played by Pat Mastroianni) from Degrassi (DJH, DH & New Generations) WAS IN THIS MOVIE…….and I just learned about it!! Joey Jeremiah was in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure…..
HOW DID I NOT SEE IT UNTIL RECENTLY, like you’d think I would’ve gotten it before, but no, not at all!! That blew my mind, when I saw that, well that was the first of it anyway, but moving on to the rest of the movie….we go back to Sharpay where she’s pleading with her dad to let her go to New York so she can be in the play, but her dad doesn’t think that she’s ready to go to the Big Apple alone, so what does Sharpay do to convince her dad!? What only Sharpay Evans does best comes up with plan to get what she wants which is to go to New York and star in that play!!
Now in this next scene discussion, we have Sharpay and her friends thinking up a plan that will get her to New York and get her dad to agree to let her go, it was also in this scene where I discovered another fellow Degrassi face Paige Michalchuk played by Lauren Collins and where I paused the movie for a second time yelling at the tv wondering how I didn’t see that before AGAIN!! I mean both Joey Jeremiah & Paige Michalchuk appeared in this movie and I just noticed it!? I guess because I had a moment in my life where all I watched (for the most part) was Degrassi, it took me this long to notice they were in this, like if you were sat next to me and saw my reaction to seeing them in it, you’d probably look at me like I was crazy, but in that moment I didn’t care I was all I cared about was that I didn’t realize it before…..
Moving on though Sharpay and her friends come up with their plan and she later presents her whole set up to her father who still is unsure on letting her go alone, her mother sees her daughters efforts and tells her husband about a friend in New York who has a son that could keep an eye out for her while she’s there, Sharpay’s father is at first hesitant, but soon caves in and agrees to let her go to New York, on a few conditions however, she’s got one month to get herself into the starring role of the play and if by the end of the month she doesn’t, she’s gotta go back home and work for her father at his country club, which is something Sharpay doesn’t want to do so she agrees to his conditions, but only to make sure she gets in that play.
To sum up the rest of the movie, Sharpay heads to New York and makes a new friend/later love interest, she also makes a frenemie (enemy first, friend later) and then an actual enemy in disguise, her friend/later love interest Peyton (played by Austin Butler) journey’s along with Sharpay on her road of stardom, while also creating his own short film for a project that he made Sharpay the leading role of when she first arrived, pretty much recording her adventure in the big apple, while on their journey, Sharpay also learns that the starring role that she was approached with by the casting agent was not for her, but for her dog, which at first she was upset about, but she later embraced it and chose to support her dog on his opportunity, Where we welcome our second song of the movie My Boi & Me, which again we’ll talk about later.
We are then soon introduced to the frememie Roger (played by a young Bradley Steven Perry) and his dog Countess, where they perform their own rendition/version of the same song that Sharpay sang with her dog, but instead it called My Girl & Me throughout the majority of the movie Sharpay & Roger have a feud with one another trying to sabotage each others dogs chances at being the lead, while their dogs found interest in each other, seriously they had a whole scene with them going on their own adventure hanging out and falling in love, it was very weird, very cute, but weird….but before that whole scene, we meet Amber Lee who is the villain of the whole movie in disguise,
Her mission is to get rid of both dogs so only she can be the star of the play and while that’s all happening she suckers Sharpay, well yes and no to that, Sharpay kinda volunteered herself temporarily to be fair only to get close to Amber so that she’d make her dog the lead dog of the play, but back to what I was saying….Amber allows Sharpay to be her new assistant after firing her last assistant all because she didn’t get her what she wanted,
*Mind you the assistant got into an accident while on her bike, but Amber didn’t care, all she cared about was what she asked for*
Back to the review Now because Sharpay idolizes Amber, she doesn’t realize that Amber was actually just using her to get her to do extra stuff that she didn’t want to do, at least at first she doesn’t, even when she was warned by Peyton about it, but even though it takes her a while she eventually learns the true colors of Amber Lee and after feeling a little down on herself for it and getting a pep talk from Peyton, she cuts ties with Amber Lee real quick all while exposing her as well, not alone, but with a new friend, her enemy turned friend Roger and after being humiliated Amber confronts Sharpay and soon quits the play,
Causing it to be canceled thanks to Sharpay standing up to Amber…..not the greatest thing for a headlined show I know!! Soon after the show was said to be cancelled with Amber walking out, Sharpay is faced with the realization that her time in New York had come to an end and that she would have to soon pack and head home to wor…wor..work at her dad’s country club (if you don’t get that reference than i’ll tell you it’s from the movie itself anytime Sharpay thought about it she’d say it that way) while she’s packing, she talks to Peyton one last time, about how she doesn’t want to leave, he tells her not to, but she’s already accepted that she made a deal with her father and that she has to go forward with it due to her not getting the role she sought out for
She then gets a call from the theater telling her to pick up the rest of her dogs stuff from the play, the writer and director of the play in the movie tells the cast that the play is off due to not having a lead actress and that it would’ve been nice to almost work with them…..after the announcement Sharpay walks toward the steps of the stage and tells Peyton that she’ll meet him outside, Peyton not wanting Sharpay to both leave and give up, tells everyone in the theater room that he know’s someone who is great for the part and shows them part of a video he filmed of her singing in the theater when no one was there.
Revealing my favorite song of the movie New York’s Best Kept Secret, after they’ve seen her hidden performance of the song they realized that she definitely should’ve been considered for the part of the girl and they without question asked Sharpay to save the show by playing the lead and she of course agreed on one condition….
That condition being that both dogs split the role of the lead dog in the play which they agreed to, in this little moment we also get a bit of a side to Sharpay that you don’t normally get which is her admitting that she’s afraid, with Peyton responding in the words of “finally” and transition love interest is a go (I don’t have to explain what that means you all get it i’m sure) we finish the movie with one last song, called The Rest Of My Life, which is another one I like, Sharpay does what Sharpay does best and steals the show, all whilst showing everyone just how she was meant to play the part and how good she actually is and that’s the movie!!
Thoughts On Movie
Okay so now we move our focus towards what I thought about the movie after not have seen it in a good old while……so revisiting this movie, i’m not going to lie, it was a little weird at first, I hadn’t watched it in soooo long and if I hadn’t have had a song from this movie stuck in my head a few days ago I probably wouldn’t have watched it for another long while to be fair, I did have a few moments where I cringed at some parts and it wasn’t really with the movie itself, but the songs within the movie, but I feel there were some parts of the movie that made me go “Oh gosh seriously!?”
Perfect example…..the parts with the two dogs, although it was cute and I fawned over the dogs themselves, I just didn’t understand why they decided to do a whole romance day with the dogs, it was very weird, I think what gave it the ultimate cringe moment was they played Justin Bieber’s breakout song Baby in the background, mind you it wasn’t even Justin himself singing it…..but Lucas Grabeel one of the main characters of HSM sing it, which by the way I just found out about recently, crazy part is it didn’t even sound like him, but okay!?
I think if they had a different song play, it wouldn’t have been that bad, it might’ve still been a little weird, but less cringe, then again it was mid 2000’s, 2011 to be exact, but still why!? Another cringe scene to me was Roger’s (Bradley Steven Perry) performance of Me & My Boi (Girl in his version) I didn’t like it, I thought i’d feel the same way about Ashley Tisdale’s version when she first started singing it, but after her performance of I learned that I had a soft spot for her version, the way she did her was actually not as bad, but Roger’s……the only thing I liked about it was the cute dog, that’s it!!
There probably was some other scenes I didn’t quite like much, but overall even with the cringe parts, I still felt like it wasn’t that bad of a movie, I think what give the movie it’s leverage of not being completely terrible is Ashley Tisdale, to me she just plays the part of Sharpay so well even the cheesy parts come across normal at least to me, watching this movie again despite me having moments where I wondered why I was even watching it, I still watched it because I was genuinely enjoying myself, Ashley Tisdale did a great job playing Sharpay not just in the High School Musical franchise, but also in her spin off movie, she doesn’t get a lot of credit for the characters she played while on Disney and how well she played them either, which is a bit of a shame, because she really is a good actress, not only that, but she’s also a good singer, her vocals are very unique, they may not be the strongest to a lot of people, but she still holds her own with it pretty well!!
I just feel her to be a little underrated with her talents and I wish people acknowledged her a bit more, because Ashley Tisdale really is quite the talent, as sweet as Ashley is, she really knows how to play the opposite to her personality and it suits her very well, but back to the movie thoughts…..overall i’d say it was pretty solid, on scale through 1-10 i’d say it’s between a 6-7, 8 being the highest on the scale that i’d choose to give it because I did enjoy it a good amount, 6 songs and all, if I had to go between 6 or 7 though, i’d give it a solid 7, it wasn’t the best movie, but it wasn’t the worst either, I still had a good time watching it and regardless to how cheesy and cringe some of the songs are, which i’ll talk on soon, there were still some that I liked as well, but movie wise….it’s exactly how I remembered and also not how I remembered,
Which in this case is good, Ashley Tisdale & Austin Butler played their parts well, I feel like their chemistry was good, Bradley played his character well too even though he was very annoying and the actress that played Amber Lee did good too, I really didn’t like her, I mean when you’re playing a villain though it’s expected, however I still feel her character to be the worst character in the movie, like seriously awful,
but I guess that was the point I mean she played her part well!! Other complaints with the movie that became a recent bother of mine was how the movie had two dogs in it, gave them their own scene and yet their not mentioned when you look up the cast even though they were LITERALLY apart..of..the..cast!? Maybe that’s just me, but I just feel if you put a lot of time into adding a whole scene for two dogs to go on adventure/date then it’s only right they are included on the cast list, JUST SAYING!! Rant now over…..I have a soft spot for this movie, will I watch it agin!? Yeah probably, a bit later down the line unless I get a sudden urge to watch it,
but I don’t think that’ll happen, with Frozen 2 most definitely because I have been wanting to watch it again for a while now, but with this movie……I feel it’ll be a while before I decide on watching it again, still have a soft spot for it though, but that’s the review…..i’ll be doing the soundtrack of this movie next although it’ll probably be a short one cause there aren’t a lot of songs to look at, there maybe 2 songs that I briefly and I mean BRIEFLY talk about because I just don’t like them very much as for the rest of the songs……i’ll try and give my best and honest thoughts on them, stay tune for part 2….
P.S. One last complaint, why did they take out Ryan’s (Lucas Grabeel) special guest appearance in the movie at the end credits!? I was looking for it and everything when I watched it on DisneyPlus and they removed it, come on seriously!? I searched it up after to feel complete, but still, they should’ve kept it!!
How’s everyone doing this Wednesday afternoon, hope you’re all well and doing alright…..now before we get to our topic here, I just want to let some thoughts out first, I don’t know what kind of day today is, but I just feel my stress levels are trying to peak their way through today for some reason,
So to keep at a calm level, I thought i’d talk about a specific episode to one of my favorite shows that I actually spoke about before on here called Craig The Creek and give some thoughts on it, in this post we’re going to be focused on the musical special episode of it, titled:
This special is about a week old now, but when I first saw it, I was just loving it, Craig Of The Creek is already a great show with it’s regular episodes, but this musical special was probably one of my favorite episodes to watch, it’s just so fun and full of song, I mean who doesn’t love that!?
Before I go on and give some thoughts on it, i’m just going to state that when it comes to tv shows and episodes from those tv shows, i’m not expert, so i’m not going to go into “critic mode” or anything like that, I just want to share my thoughts on it and try and explain what I loved about it!!
Now to give a brief summary of some sort…….it’s a musical episode so it’s a little different towards your regular COTC episodes, however this special was just very entertaining to me, every song was just wonderfully done, love JP’s high notes, he really went for it!! I also like when the Creek kids sang in harmony together it was nice, this whole episode was just full of a good time, you can tell that each song had some kind of inspiration from certain musicals, some that I know and some I might know, but might not.
To give you guys a little look into what the episode was, we have Craig and his friends, but manly Craig, stuck inside his home, wishing he was at the Creek, but isn’t able to go due to it raining cats and dogs outside and so the whole episode he’s having to use his imagination or get creative on what kind of things him and his friends would be doing at the Creek if it wasn’t raining……and so you see within the episode, he imagines finding a random key and wondering what it goes to and wanting to know the origins of it.
Him and his friends are going around and asking everyone they know at the creek (not really) what the key goes to and where it came from, things like that, but reminder (not that you forgot) it’s a musical based episode and so they’re pretty much singing everything they do in it, there are some speaking moments, but the animations and weird moments that happened within the special is just something I can’t even explain, I mean MORTIMER……even sings and for those who don’t know who Mortimer is,
Well he’s Kelsey’s parakeet bird, but Mortimer isn’t just a regular bird, there’s more to him than meets the eye, he’s Kelsey’s life pet companion, her partner in crime, he’s always with Kelsey!! he may be small, but that parakeet is a true warrior……I know that probably sounded weird, but it’s the truth,
He never leaves her side unless it’s important, but the point is, it can get interestingly weird at times, but in good way i’d say, I loved everything about it, it’s just a good episode and definitely a favorite, there’s a few songs from it that I like a lot, but overall, the whole special was just the best!!
I’m glad it exist, but that’s pretty much it, I don’t want to spoil the episode too much, hopefully I didn’t spoil it, but if you like adventurous type of cartoons that pretty much always almost breaks the fourth wall within certain episodes definitely check it out, it’s the best in my opinion and this specific episode was just a hoot to watch I loved every moment of it!!
Since we’re on the topic of Craig Of The Creek…….I went and recorded a video the other day talking about some of my favorite episodes from the series, mainly the new episodes that came out recently, i’m probably going to do a part 2 not sure when though, but eventually, I haven’t yet posted it, i’ll be doing that later tonight, when I do though expect to have this post be updated with the link later on as well, but that is it for this post……
Update: I didn’t actually post the video the day I said I would, but I did post it, sorry for the later update sharing the video though, if you want to check it out, you can find it here: Favorite Craig Of The Creek Episodes
Hey there everyone, hope you’re all doing well, today I want to talk music and the artist and song that i’d like to talk about today is Sara Bareilles and her song She Used To Be Mine. Just to give you guys a heads up, I actually wrote this post a couple of days ago, but didn’t really get around to finishing it, until now. I had the song in my head for two days and so I thought, let’s talk on it and while we’re at it, let’s see if we’re able to interpret the song as well.
So to kinda introduce Sara Bareilles a bit, just in case you aren’t completely sure on who she is, Sara is a musician well a singer/songwriter, you might have heard a few of her songs before, she had this one song that was pretty popular back in the early 2000’s called Love Song. I think that was actually her breakout hit, but i’m not sure, so don’t quote me on it. You might’ve also heard Brave which is another popular song from her, i’m sure there’s a lot of songs that are very well known, but for those of you who have heard the songs or they sound familiar to you, well she’s the one who sings them, in case you didn’t know.
She’s also an actress, but is known for musicals mainly, i’m not sure if she’s been in movies or anything, but I know that she has starred in a couple of Broadway musicals before. You might be aware of one, the most recent musical that she’s been in is called Waitress, I think she’s a writer to that musical, I don’t think to the play, but I believe she wrote a few songs for it.
She of course has her own music, I have two of her albums…….well one is her album and the other one is the soundtrack to the musical Waitress, the album that I have is called The Blessed Unrest which came out in 2013, you can find the song Brave on that one and as for the other song that I mentioned before, Love Song can be found on her album Little Things which came out in 2007, there’s a whole lot of other albums and songs that she has, but those are the two that I thought i’d talk on a bit since those are the two songs that most people might know from her.
Moving on though to the song that inspired me to write this post, now if you didn’t know or maybe you did, the song Used To Be Mine comes from the musical Waitress……..now i’ve never watched Waitress, but i’ve been wanting to watch it ever since I heard Sara Bareilles was gonna be apart of it, but it would only be for a short time and every time I would think of checking it out……I would always miss her, but I found out a few days ago that she’s coming back for a few more shows next month and will only be there until February, so I still have a chance to go see the musical and see her as well in it, I heard that it’s very good, so I really want to check it out.
Let’s go on with the song shall we!? Used To Be Mine is one of my favorite songs from Sara Bareilles, it’s a very beautiful song, when you hear it, it just grabs you and pulls you in, at least that’s what it does to me when I hear it. The lyrics are very deep and let’s not even forget the piano that brings it all together as well as the other instruments with it………..I can’t even describe it, it’s just amazing, we’ll just say that!! The song is just great as a whole and Sara’s voice with it, just brings the song to life in a way that……..is just hard to explain, it’s like………I don’t know how to describe it, all I can say is, you really feel the song and the emotion that she brings to it, if you haven’t heard the song, listen to it, really listen to it, you’ll know what I mean when you do.
Now I know that everyone will most likely interpret this song in many different ways, which is expected when listening to a song, even if the artist themselves tell you exactly what the song means, you’ll always have your own meanings for it. When I first heard this song, i’m sure it got to me, I can’t really remember my actual reaction of it, but every time I hear it now, the lyrics, reading it and the song in general, gives you that feeling of woah because you connect with it right away and for a lot of people like myself it’s relatable.
I was originally gonna break down the lyrics to this song, but I decided instead I want to let it speak for itself, looking at these lyrics, there isn’t any other way to interpret them. I tried to break these lyrics down and I was having trouble doing so and that’s why I would rather the lyrics do the speaking then me try and break them down and my words end up all over the place you know!? That being said, my interpretation on this song, my meaning for it, is completely, different to it’s actual meaning. It might be the same, but it’s also very different………..In the song she’s pretty much reflecting on the way her life is and looking back on who she once was, compared to who she is now……..from the lyrics you can see that the reflection that she’s expressing, she isn’t all too fond of the way things are going, but also from a different angle you can also see the emotions that she’s feeling, is more on the scared side of town and being confused and just overall thinking about everything that has happened.
In the chorus you can see that she is aware of all the flaws that she carries with her from being imperfect, to saying that, although she says that she’s good, she isn’t truthful about her actual feelings, she’s her own worst enemy when it comes to wanting to get things right and even though she knows that she needs help and is broken inside, she won’t let people know that, because to her it’s being vulnerable and she’d rather pretend that she’s fine then have people see that she’s hurting and unhappy, so that’s the first part and chorus (Hook, to be more technical) of the song.
So this part of the song, i’m not even gonna break it down or interpret it, at least not all of them, certain parts I will, but only to interpret what I originally thought it was about. As you can see there’s a lot more emotion put into this part and you can probably figure out what it’s about or maybe you already know because you’ve heard the song already, but i’m not gonna tell you what the actual meaning to this song is, because I want to see if you’re able to figure it out if you don’t know what the actual meaning to it is.
This part of the song always makes me want to get emotional, in this part of the song, it picks up and becomes a lot more intense to where you really feel it, you don’t even have to listen to it to feel it, just reading these lyrics, if you’re like me and love finding out the meaning to songs and pretty much everything else, you feel it……….not just the song, but you feel for the writer of the song as well, because they went out of their way to write this powerful, emotional and touching song that just leaves you speechless, they didn’t have to write any of it, but they did because although it was extremely personal, they still felt they needed to share it, which is incredible.
Now here’s the part where I tell you my interpretation on the song, well certain parts of the song that is and what I thought it mean’t. In the second verse, if you look at the lyrics……..there’s a part in it where she talks about, the way life does things and how it presents you with something or someone in this case, pretty much throwing you off which is why she says to herself that if she could, she’d go back and change a couple of things and have it play out a different way to how it turned out to be.
In that whole part, you can kinda pick up that she’s self reflecting, whenever she sees and feels that she’s different and is completely disconnected from her old self in a way. She sees this new version of her and is having a hard time relating and embracing it in a way, which is why she sings the lines “You’re not what I asked for, if i’m honest, I know I would give it all back for a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two, for the girl that I knew” Those lines right there, are one of the lines I relate to and i’m sure a lot of you do too if you know the song.
I’ve changed a lot this year and I can’t tell whether it’s good or not, for me it’s half and half, but I know that a lot of us go through a change that we weren’t really expecting and sometimes we change and become a whole new person, which we know means that we’re growing and coming into our own in a way, but sometimes it’s hard because when you’ve been a certain way for so long and something or even a few things start to change with you or about you, it’s like you’re meeting and seeing this whole new person, but you aren’t exactly sure how you feel about it.
Being someone you don’t recognize, when you thought, you knew the kind of person you were, automatically you’re gonna want to go back and change a few things, but you know that you can’t, so it’s like you’re completely stuck with this new version of you that you really didn’t ask for and even though, you try to get back somehow, you feel deep down somewhere that, no matter how hard you try, you’re not gonna get that version of you back, at least not in the same way you always had her or him.
The last part of the song that I want to talk about is the part where she sings: “She’ll get stuck and be scared of the life that’s inside her, growing stronger each day, til it finally reminds her, to fight just a little and bring back the fire in her eyes, that’s been gone, but used to be mine” Now this part always gives me goosebumps and sometimes leaves me emotional, because I relate to it so much for a reason that is hard to explain, I love that line, it’s one of my favorites in the song, it’s just one of those lines that speak to you on a deeper level and that’s why I love this song so much, because there’s certain parts in it that I feel and connect with emotionally.
The actual meaning to it, knowing it now, when you hear it, it makes sense and you won’t be able to see it as anything else as much once you know the actual meaning, but for me when I first heard it, I interpreted it in a completely different way to how it is originally, the meaning I took from that part is a very personal one, but overall I looked at the song as her singing about self reflection as well as self discovery.
It’s amazing how you can listen to a song and even when you find out the actual meaning to that song, we still create our own interpretation for it. I can see why a lot of artist when you ask them what’s the meaning to a song that they’ve written, a lot of the time they won’t say because 1. they know even when they tell us the meaning, they know that we’ll just come up with our own and 2. sometimes their songs don’t really have a deep meaning behind it, sometimes the song just comes to them without having a specific backstory on it and if there is one, it’s just a random one.
That’s why a lot of them just say they’ll leave it up for interpretation so they won’t have to give it away or sometimes it’s just too personal that they would rather have people come up with their own meaning then have it be explained. So that is all I have for this post, let me know in the comments below, what your thoughts are on this song, have you heard it and if you have, feel free to share your interpretations on it.
