Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is having a good/decent day today! I don’t think this is going to be that long of post if I’m being honest, I just wanted to write some quick thoughts down of what is to be expected, now I know we have been speaking about Encanto a lot, I want to apologize about it, but I won’t because I really love the movie and when I really enjoy something I have to talk about it, plus I have yet to really give my thoughts about what my feelings are with the movie Encanto, which I will be doing soon and this time there will be spoilers coming disclaimer so keep a look out for it, in the meantime let’s talk about what’s to come!
Although I’ve spoken a bit on the movie, one of the things that I will be discussing that I have yet to give thoughts on is the soundtrack of the movie, obviously I won’t be going into detail with it here, but just know that I am excited to talk about it! If you haven’t watched the movie, definitely check it out and when you do really take in that soundtrack because it is just…..wonderful one of the best soundtracks in a Disney movie in my opinion…..it’s very different to what we normally get, but it’s still great, like I said I won’t give my full thoughts today, but what I will say is, Encanto’s soundtrack is something I feel wasn’t what everyone expected from it, until we all heard it!
I mean I can only speak for myself, but I do have a feeling that what my reaction was for the soundtrack was probably everyone else’s reaction for those that watched the movie, it could be different who knows, but regardless to the actual feelings of it with everyone else, my feeling’s with it still stays the same, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sang certain songs from the soundtrack to myself, let’s just say I pretty much know one of the songs by heart now…..not fully, but I’m almost there!
Now what can we expect when discussing the soundtrack, well I will be sharing my honest and best thought about it, what songs are my favorite, which ones I would play the most or least and when I say least that doesn’t mean I don’t like them, I’m just stating it more in a sense of what I feel I’d see myself constantly listening to each song is great in their own way, but I think we all know when we really like a song and when we know we aren’t going to be listening to them often!
Another thing to expect is I will be sharing my own interpretation of each song and what I think they could mean, be it an obvious meaning, one that can be interpreted as more metaphor based or a mix of both, one song I kind of already drew my own interpretation for, which I will share when we get to the topic, I’m also going to try something new and see if I can place to my least to top favorites again, whatever is in the least does not mean the songs are bad, I just want to see if I can create my own top 5-10, I feel that it’ll be a hard one, but I’m going to try and really place these songs to where I feel they fit best with my own top 5-10, we’ll have to see how it goes!
That’s pretty much everything, I still have yet to decide how I want to talk about the soundtrack, I most likely will write a post about it, but I also might make a podcast ep on it or do some kind of video…..not sure, but I’ll figure it out soon! That being said the movie review of it will be a podcast ep that I can’t wait for, but that’s it for this post, hope you have a good rest of the day and stay tune for my thoughts on Encanto’s soundtrack!
All The Love ❤ ❤
Lexa
Update:
Now I just want to say that although this isn’t my thoughts to the soundtrack just yet, I did finally get around to recording my thoughts for the movie yesterday! There just might be a part two for it as I wasn’t able to talk about some other things that I wanted to share, but most of my thoughts are there, so if you would like to give it a listen, you can find it here!
Good Afternoon, hope everyone is having a nice Friday, we’ve come to the end of the week and start of another weekend, this week has been zooming by a bit! You can probably guess form the title what we’re going to be discussing, seeing that it’s the end of the week, I thought we’d just talk about music, now before we talk a little about today’s song, I just want to give you all a bit of an update to what I’ve been doing, so I actually recorded this as an episode yesterday for my podcast, normally I like to record on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but I ended up changing it up this week and have been recording Tuesday and Thursday so far,
I just wanted to see if I liked it for this week….it’s been okay, I don’t know if I’d say I like recording during these days, there have been times where, my days felt weird, I got so used to recording during the beginning, middle and end of the week that it threw me off, so we’ll be going back to the original schedule of my podcast episodes, I wasn’t going to keep it this way anyway, I just wanted to test it out and now that I have, I can say, I prefer Monday, Wednesday and Friday days!
On to the rest of the post, even though I did an episode about this song, I also wanted to write about for the simple reason of I forgot to mention a few things within that episode and I messed up on certain parts to what I was talking about so pretty much this post will be of what I want to add and fix, without giving too much of the episode away! First up, I talked about how Demi Lovato covered one of Hozier’s song Take Me To Church on BBC One Radio (BBC Radio One!?) but I completely forgot that he had covered her song which was I believe Sorry Not Sorry on there as well, it came to me when I was uploading the episode and so I wanted to add that! I also messed up on the song title to what I had said The Bones by Maren Morris ft Hozier was similar to,
I said the song was named Let It Be, but it ‘s actually called Let It Go (like the frozen song) and I finally got the name of the artist that I was trying to remember that sang the song when I was talking about it, I knew that was going to happened cause it always happens, right when you stop recording you remember or you find it! I actually just searched it up on my Spotify last night, the artist is named James Bay and the song is Let It Go! I think it’s the way both songs start, to why they sound very similar to me, but just because they sound similar doesn’t mean they are, they’re both two completely different songs, they just share a same sound vibe is all…..well The Bones sounds similar to Let It Go is what I mean, I mixed some lyrics up there, Let It Be is one of the lyrics in the song, but it’s not the name of the song! I guess I was thinking about The Beatles song when I said that in my episode, sorry about that!
Another thing I’ll give you a heads up on about the episode is that I sing…..don’t mind me, whenever I’m talking about a specific song, I tend to sing some of the lyrics, it’s what I do so hopefully you don’t mind, but yeah that’s pretty much it, if you would like to check out both Demi and Hozier’s version of each others song, I will leave it for you, both are good, I watched it before so I think you’ll enjoy them as well, I’ll also leave you all the other songs and that if you want to check them out, that’s is everything that I wanted to add as extras, the rest of what I gave my thoughts to is in the episode so if you would like to check it out, here you go:
Happy Saturday, hope you all are having a good day!! Now I know that I haven’t properly talked about this so I thought I’d have this post be the introduction for it…..a late introduction, but an introduction nonetheless!! Now in case a lot of you don’t already know I went ahead and created a podcast, some of you may already know if you’ve read some of my latest posts, but if you didn’t…..I have a podcast now, it’s called Daydreamer’s Podcast and I created it out of curiosity, I was actually writing a post and had just finished posting that post when I saw an opportunity to be able to turn a post into a podcast episode and so that’s exactly what I did, so I kind of have WordPress to thank for giving me the idea of creating one, I only have 2 episodes right now, but so far I’ve been enjoying myself,
I have found that I actually get pretty excited to record the next episode, which is something that comes rarely for me, but this is something I kind of been wanting to do for a bit of a while now, I tend to talk quite a bit and sometimes a lot of the things I want to share can be too long to write in a post and so I thought this was the perfect thing to give a try, It’s something I’ve always thought of doing and it’s something that has literally presented itself to me and why not give it a shot!!
Now the content to my new Podcast is going to be a bit of everything in the sense to the way I do it here on my blog, it’s pretty much interest based, so for example music, video games and sometimes serious topics that I feel I want to share upon and discuss a bit about…..sometimes I’ll even incorporate some blog post topic for the days where I feel I want to express a bit more, the two episodes that are up now were based off two blog posts, but it’s stuff like that! I just want to create a place that everyone can just hang out and hopefully have a good time!! I already recorded a third episode which should be up pretty soon, but if you guys are curious and would like to check out the last two episodes of my podcast, that would really mean a lot to me, you can have a listen to both episodes here:
For those who do manage to check it out the podcast, first I just want to say I appreciate it in advance and I hope you all enjoy the episodes that you decide to give a listen to, with that said, Welcome to The Daydreamer’s Podcast, I’ll be your host, Alexa, but you can just call me Lex or Lexa, I prefer it anyway! I hope you’re all able to enjoy the content and atmosphere that I do my best to bring to this podcast, hope I can get some of you to hang around and stay a while!! ^_^
I heard this song for the very first time in a very long time yesterday and I forgot just how good this song is, it used to be one of my favorites to listen to, I hadn’t heard it in a while, but i’m glad that I was curious enough to revisit it and hear it again!! Kacey delivers this song so beautifully, I mean she literally takes her time to sing every lyric of the song going with the theme of it very well, I listened to it about 3 times today in one sitting within the same hour…seriously the lyrics are probably one of my favorites and i’ve listened to a lot of songs, if you asked me to name my top five favorite songs with the best lyrics this would probably be in the top five, it’d be pretty high on a list anyway!
Now i’m going to be honest here…..i’ve not really heard a lot of Kacey Musgraves songs, i’ve only heard a hand full of her songs, but she’s got a very unique voice and the songs that I have heard are really good, Follow Your Arrow, Rainbow, I even love her version of All Is Found from the Frozen 2 soundtrack, I like it a lot actually, Slow burn though, there’s just something about that song, I remember when I first heard it and in the moment I thought “I can really feel these lyrics” like I felt some kind of connection with them and I would listen to it constantly, I just felt it spoke volumes, if you’ve ever heard it you’ll understand what I mean by that!
If you never heard it before and you decide to give it a listen, you’ll find it right away, this song is literally about enjoying things at a slower pace, taking things in as they come and being okay with being a bit of a slow burner, I consider myself to be that as well if i’m being honest here, if you really think about it….this song is quite fitting with where we all are in life at the moment with the pandemic still going on, it’s not all the way done and it’s not going to be all the way done for a good while, but in some cases it’s getting there, but in others it’s still got a long way to go…..but that aside
This song is a really nice song to sit back and relax to, especially when you feel things starting to become a little overwhelming within the day or week even, it gives you a bit of a reminder that it’s alright to slow things down a bit if you you need to and tells you to embrace taking your time more with things and acknowledge small things around you!!
It’s even got it’s own witty and fun lyrics to it, one of my favorites being the opening line “Born in a hurry, always late, haven’t been early since 88′ I love that line, it’s like she’s making light of herself saying the last time she was early to anything was when she was born and now she just always running late for everything, I like songs like that, where the artist make slight fun of themselves, because their giving you a side to them that they probably don’t share often so when they add those little moments they’re letting you in on a secret part of them which is nice!!
You don’t always get that from artists, so when you do you feel like you’re apart of something which is one of the best feelings you can have……but Slow Burn is just a really nice song, Kacey really does perform it well and whether I listen to it all the time or every so often I think it’ll always be one of favorites to look for, hit play and just enjoy it, possibly along side some coffee, tea or while in nature, it goes well with that!!
If you’re into giving it a listen you can listen to it here: Slow Burn you can also search it up on Youtube or any other music streaming platforms that you have, you might even have the CD which works too, whatever you have do give it a listen it’s worth it!!
Alright it’s now 5:50pm as i’m writing this close to 6pm, by the time I finish this post it might just be past both those times depends how long this post will both take me and be. I’m going to try and keep my thoughts for each song brief so this doesn’t take so long, so with that note let’s get straight into this album review shall we!?
As promised well more like stated in my last post, i’ve just finished listening to the Jonas Brothers latest album for a second time and well let’s just say my thoughts about it have both changed in a way, while also not changing at all, so I still feel the same about this album to when I first heard, but i’ve added a few more thoughts to the songs so let’s talk about it!!
Starting with Track 1: Sucker……
Alright so just like the first listen of this song and I mean first REAL listen of it (I did hear this around, but it wasn’t until I finally listened to the album to where I really sat and heard the whole song) non of my thoughts to this song have changed much, I still think it’s pretty catchy and I find it to be a pretty groovy song, the only thing i’d say that has changed with it is that when I first listened to it I wasn’t quite sure whether to add it as an automatic favorite of mine, but listening to it a second time……it might just be up there, I think I need a few more listens to have be decided officially though,
but yeah, it’s a pretty good song and I think it’s one you can’t really go wrong with, with it, you’re just having a good time, who doesn’t love that!?
Now moving on to Track 2: Coooool!! (I just wanted to add the extra O’s)
This song is exactly what the title of it says, Cool!! I love the chillness that it brings from start to finish, I thought the vocal’s in this one was really great and it’s just a really nice song to kick back to i’d say, also we should really inspire to be like ourselves when we grow up (just taking notes from Nick who suggested it in the song towards the end)
Now on to Track 3: Only Human(the one I always forget to mention the title of for some weird odd reason )
Don’t worry I remembered it this time, I don’t know why I always forget to say the name of the title, I always just jump right in and start talking about it, this time however I was aware!! Now let’s talk about this song a little…..this is my favorite track of this album at least one of my favorites anyway (first favorite) I wish I can explain this, but I just can’t, all I can say is that it’s just soooo good, like seriously just the best (to me anyway)
The second verse to this song is by far one of my favorites, just because of the way it’s brought to us, i’d quote it, but I think you should just listen to it, just so you can get a good taste of it for yourself, but I mean the whole song is great though, I just really love it, there’s just something about it, I can’t really explain so first recommended song to listen to is this one!!
Track 4: I Believe….
Now if there’s one thing to tell you about this song is……I believe, that it’s a very great track….yes I used the title to describe the song….you should’ve saw it coming and if you did, then i’m just really predicable aren’t I!?
Either way, this song is just beautiful, it’s just really good, it’s also another favorite of mine, so check it out, you might just like it as well!!
Track 5: Used To Be….
Okay we’ve come to this track, now when I first heard this song, I thought it to be good, still think it’s good, but after the second listen…..i’ve come to say that I feel this might be my least favorite on the album…..not because it’s a bad track, I just feel it’s the track i’m not going to listen to a lot, like i’m not gonna go out of my way to listen to it…..that was my first initial thought hearing it a second time, however another thought came in and i’m going to dub this song a mixed feeling type of song for me, it’s like I like it……
but I know it’s going to be the track that I skip a few times and then listen to out of the blue if that makes sense!? I might have to let it grow on me a bit, but besides everything I said, I still think it’s a great song overall, it’s deep, the lyrics to it are really great and I did get a few chills listening to it, but for now it’s my least favorite, however I still also like it as well (mixed feelings)
Track 6: Every Single Time….
I was gonna use the title of the song again to start off my thoughts, but I thought let’s not……this song it’s just has it’s own vibe to it, I can’t really explain it, but you feel it, you can’t put your finger on it, but you know it’s good, this is another groovy track also you really can appreciate Nick Jonas’s vocal’s in this song, it’s very interesting in the best kind of way!!
Track 7: Don’t Throw It Away….
I know this reads Track 7, but what it really should read is track seveeeen, that’s how I said it with my first listen of the song when sharing my thoughts, there might’ve been more E’s though……. XD but what can we say about this song though!? I don’t have a lot of words for it except for it’s soooo good, I love it and that it’s a favorite of mine…..that is all really!!
Apr 11, 2020(Continuation of this album review)
Alright so we stoped at Track 7 yesterday and we’ve got 7 more songs to talk about, I could’ve finished it yesterday, but I kinda just chilled out the rest of the night!! In a way though we’ve evened the songs out, anyway let’s continue on with this post, so far i’d say we’ve done a good job keeping it short and sweet so let’s see if we can keep it going for the next 7 songs!!
First song on the next day list, Track 8: Love Her…..
Well I LOVE this song i’ll tell you that for starters, my original thoughts with it haven’t really changed, it’s still a very sweet track and whenever I hear it, it gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME!! It’s just so great and it knows how to pull on your heartstrings seriously, I cry all the time, okay maybe not cry CRY,
but the waterworks do start forming when I hear it and I haven’t been hearing it a lot to be honest so I don’t know how it always gets me, I love it though and it’s still one of favorites off this album!!
On to Track 9: Happy When I’m Sad
I just sang this song to myself and i’m realizing just how catchy this one is…..here’s to hoping it doesn’t get stuck in my head the rest of the day, I already woke up singing one of their other songs…..luckily it was a favorite!!
Anyway….let’s talk track number 9, my original thoughts on this one haven’t changed really, still think it’s pretty great, when I first heard it, I actually thought I wasn’t going to like this one along with another song of theirs (not the one I said was my least favorite, but a different song that turned out to be my favorite)
The more I listened to it though, the more I actually thought it was a good song!! Now what you won’t know about this song is that, theres a bit of a hidden meaning with it, even though the track is disguised well with it’s poppy upbeat tone and is pretty danceable, it can be easy to overlook the lyrics of it even though the title is pretty much a dead giveaway…..that being said, this track does give you the best of both in terms of deep meaning and just having a song that you can enjoy and groove to from time to time!!
Track 10: Trust
I’m trying to think of words for this song…..I have it as a favorite, but every time I come up to it, I can never find words for it I think i’m going to re listen so I can try and put it to words properly……just a quick moment…..
Told you that was quick!! I remember it now (10:44am just finished) Even after hearing it, I still can’t really properly describe the song to you…..what I will say is that, it’s got some coolness to it, I guess if I had to give it a backstory, it’s a song that you’d probably add to your guilty pleasure playlist because when you hear the lyrics it’s pretty much like that anyway,
It gives off the feeling of knowing you shouldn’t like something, but you just can’t help yourself to like it at the same time……..so i’d say with this song, you’d need to check it out for yourself to understand it, but everything about this song is just amazing, I love it and it’s one of my favorites!!
Alright now that that’s done…..we will now make our way to Track 11: Strangers
Which is another song I don’t have much to say about, I didn’t have much to say when I first heard it and I still don’t have much to say on it now even after the second listen of it, all I can tell you is that I like it and that it’s a good song……that’s pretty much it……alright well moving on!!
We’ve got 3 more songs ahead, but I promise we’re flying through this review!! Number 12 on the track list is a song called……Hesitate:
Okay before we move ahead there’s 3 songs on this album that gave me different artist vibes, the first song was I Believe, which gave me Zayn Malik vibes, only because it reminded me of his song Let Me (at first I thought Borderz, but the song Let Me later came into my mind and I thought yeah that’s the song) This one gave me a more Harry Styles kind of vibe…..
Let me explain okay, i’m not just purposely adding One Direction members here alright!! It’s the writing style of it that reminds me of Harry, if any of you have ever listened to a Harry Styles record then you’ll see what I mean, but when I first heard this song, it was the first thing that came to mind for some reason, not saying the Jonas Brothers can’t write deep songs, they can,
but I heard it the first time and thought Harry Styles and when I heard it again I still thought Harry Styles writing, but One Direction members aside, I love this song, Nick, Kevin and Joe did a very great job on it, maybe it’s just similar writing styles to where I put the comparison on it, either way it’s a beautiful song, there’s a nice soft bridge in here and when I went to hear it the second time, I may have replayed it only to hear the bridge part,
I could’ve just heard the bridge part, but I ended up listening to the whole song again, but that shows you just how good the song is if you’re going back for a replay of it!! Also another song came to mind when I was re listening to it (no it has nothing to do with One Direction this time) what it does have to do with is the Jonas Brothers themselves and a song they sang
Back when they were playing themselves in a show called Jonas L.A. that song being Invisible, now it was only a small pick up I got, but I wanted to add that…..but yes, love the song, it’s a favorite!!
2 more to go….next up track 13……Rollercoaster
Alright so what can I say with this song……I had a lot of different thoughts about what this song is about, at first I thought “wait is this about their journey as a band” and then another thought came through where I thought ” wait is this a story about Kevin Jonas meeting his wife” i’m still figuring this one out as you can see, there’s just sooo many different things that this song can be about, but I don’t know, I also thought it might be a mixture of everything in one so maybe it’s that, I have a clue, but it’s good
Also this is the third song where I was picking up different artist vibes, but don’t worry it’s not all 1D related, this one I picked up on some Avicii vibes (R.I.P Avicii) as well as Selena Gomez when she did that song with Marshmallow called Wolves, but the more I listened to it the more I felt it to be more on the Avicii side of town in terms of how it sounds, it reminded me of the song Wake Me Up feat Aloe Blacc, I don’t know why, but it did…..
I’m thinking it might’ve just been the way the song was, when you hear it, it might make more sense, but other than that, the song is really good, really pretty and just full of feelings, like Nostalgia type feelings if you will, it’s a nice song though!!
Okay everyone we have now reached the end of this album review as well as the last track on the album, Track 14……Comeback
This track might leave you wondering at first to what it’s going to sound like, you might look at the title and think “oh this ones going to be pretty hard hitting isn’t it!?” but once you step into it and hit play……you’ll be surprised to know that it’s…..not far from it, but more not what you expected, when I first heard this song, I wasn’t sure what to expect with it,
I had something in mind to what I thought it’d sound like, but it turned out not sounding at all to what I was expecting it to, to be honest i’m not really quite sure what I was expecting from it now that i’m thinking about it really, however I didn’t think it’d deliver so calmly either when I listened to it for the first time soooo yeah…..I don’t know, but hearing it, I wanted to get emotional, but I didn’t at the same time if that makes sense!? It’s a really beautiful song, it’s another one that pulls at the heartstrings and it’s just an overall sweet and lovely song and I would recommend checking it out!!
We’ve done it, we’ve finally reached the end of this album and I gotta say I might just like this one better than my first thought review, because I got to really sit and think about it a bit more, but the first version wasn’t bad, that was just an after reaction trying my best to soak it all in, but this one is more analytical and broken down better, I like them both!!
Final Thoughts!?
I love this album, I love that my favorite band is back together again, i’m just overall Happy and over the moon about it!! I could say more, but I think my best reaction and final thoughts to it, is all within my first review on it, I say all that I think about it there so i’ll keep this final thought short and sweet, but not before saying one last thing……WELCOME BACK JONAS BROTHERS (A.K.A. THE ORIGINAL JB……YES I NEEDED TO SAY THAT)
no but, seriously, i’ve missed you guys and I can’t wait to see what else you guys got coming……alright that is all the review i’ve got, thank you so much for reading this post and just being here all together it truly means a lot!!
Signing out now……hope you all are having a good weekend and are keeping safe and well and I hope you’ve enjoyed this are doing okay!!
Afternoon everyone, hope everyone’s having a GOOD Friday, I say that because it’s good Friday and also because I generally do hope you’re having a good day in general!! Let me know if that was cheesy……actually you don’t have to I already know it was. Okay so today we’re going to talk music and albums, now I wrote a post sometime last week saying that this one was up for writing, but that I wanted to do it a certain way before actually writing about it as well, to get to the point I recorded a video expressing my thoughts on one of my favorite bands The Jonas Brothers and their latest album Happiness Begins just to let you know that video is now up already.
It took me a few days though to upload it due to me having to edit it down a whole lot……it was almost 2 hours recording, an hour forty five plus to be exact……don’t worry though the hour part is no more and instead it’s now 45 mins and 43 secs, which is a HUGE difference compared to the original time……I had to pause and transfer a lot to make room on my camera which is why it was so long, also it was pretty early in the morning and so it took me a while to get through it, but that’s because I was still waking up!!!
Moving on however, I have decided that what i’m going to do for this post is have it be a little different to the video I did, expressing my thoughts on the album, the video review about it, is a bit more detailed in terms of depth explaining if that makes sense!?
So everything that’s in that video has more to it expression wise compared to the review of the album i’ll be writing about shortly!! Now what i’m going to do is, i’m going to re listen to Happiness Begins by the Jonas Brothers and see what other thoughts I have with it, i’m curious to see if any of my original thoughts I had change from what I already talked about in my video version review of it, i’m not sure if it will……
but who knows, some might change and some might actually stay the same but i’m going to try and differentiate this review post to my video review and just see if anything switches around, i’m also going to do my best to keep my thoughts short and sweet for each song I talk about so it’s not a long post and from there i’ll write some final thoughts and tell you what I thought about the album after listening to it a second time,
In the meantime while i’m re listening to the album, if you guys would like to check out my original thoughts on the album from the first listen, you can check it out here: Now Playing…..Happiness Begins by The Jonas Brothers it might take a bit to get through, I recorded it early in the morning and so I was still in the mist of waking up, but it does pick up after a while so if you do end up checking it out, just bare with me as I go through all the songs, speaking of songs, there’s 14 songs on this album and so that’s also why it takes a bit of time, but we manage to get through it!!
Alright so i’m off to re listen to my favorite band and their latest album Happiness Begins again, i’ll write my thoughts to it on a second post making this one…..part 1 so i’ll uhhh…..see you when i’ve re heard all the songs!!
I guess we’re having a PVRIS theme today, because I can not get their songs out of my head, this morning when making toast and coffee I was singing they’re song Holy to myself and now i’m finding myself humming to their song What’s Wrong…..so with that, looks like i’ll be writing about them today, lucky they recently came out with a new single, so I think i’ll take upon this opportunity to give my thoughts on it and talk about them a bit.
Now just to give you guys a heads up, I kinda already went and listened to the song this past Sunday night and wrote down my thoughts to it in one of my journals as I was listening to it, so this is going to be one of those song review kind of posts, everything that I wrote down in my journal,
Majority of those notes and thoughts will be in this post, I might change some stuff as i’m going along that I hadn’t written down already, adding stuff to it and maybe changing certain things as well, I don’t know, but as i’m writing, it should come together, but yeah just a heads up on that!!
I won’t stall anymore, kidding that was just an introduction, but on to my thoughts and reaction to the song, in written form…..hope this works…..
Quick Note:It took me 3 weeks, after the release of the song just to listen to it, again 3 weeks!! I waited to hear this, yeah……alright….
Review starting in 3…2…1….LET’S GO!!
Song starts: We’re in the beginning of the song and I didn’t expect it to start off as a dance song…..a bit confusing, knowing how a PVRIS song is, I wouldn’t have expected it to have this kind of groove to it…….i’m intrigued with it though so far…..(reaction 21 seconds into the song)
Went back to the beginning to re listen properly, because the start of the song reminded me of their other song Holy from their album White Noise, listen to the start of it carefully, it’s in the kick of the drum to where it sorta sounds like it, but after a while you start to hear it come into it’s own sound, it’s pretty cool, it’s like a good memory……(reaction 1 second into the song, going back to the beginning)
Quick Journal Note:I think at this point I paused it, because in my journal I wrote nervous yet excited as I was listening to the song and I was……then I talked about how I haven’t heard any of the Jonas Brothers new songs yet,
Mind you they’re one of my favorite bands that I grew up on and their songs have been out for a good few months now, so you’d think that’d be the first band i’d listen to……nope I went and checked out PVRIS new song instead of theirs, that came out 3 weeks ago……priorities!!
Don’t worry I already decided that i’m going to be listening to them finally sometimes this week, maybe Friday so everyone calm down, relax it’s cool!!
Back to the song……I had to re look at my notes to figure out if I was in the beginning or middle of the song, it’s still the beginning because I went back before…..(reaction 26 seconds into the song) liking the lyrics so far, normally I tend to focus on the lyrics to a song, because it’s the part that I feel draws you in, but with this song, my focus is on the rhythm and beat of it, which is new……it’s good though…..we’re at the chorus now and THERE GOES PVRIS!!
I knew the PVRIS usual style would kick in at some point, it only took close to a minute in…..which is fine i’m not saying that’s wrong. (reaction 56 seconds into the song) I like the second verse line of the chorus “One man’s hell is another’s god, it’s all about perspective or parallax.”
Their writing style continues to get me, like seriously how do they do it!? I don’t know (reaction 1.27 seconds into the song) like the bridge part, real groovy, I really like the build up towards the next lines involving the chorus it just comes in nicely, love it!!
From this point I didn’t really write anything else about the song, because it had finished, I did write my overall thoughts to the song though, which I will share in a moment, right abooout……..NOW!!
OKAY, my overall and final thoughts of the song…..I didn’t like it…..no i’m kidding, my whole written reaction would literally counter me saying that…
Final Thoughts:I liked it!! I mean it, I have no bad words to say on it, was it different to what i’m used to or was expecting from PVRIS!?
Hell yeah, but it’s still good!! Now that being said I know a lot of people may not feel the same way and not like it as much or maybe they will who knows, my thoughts on the song however is that I genuinely enjoyed it very much, again it wasn’t what I was expecting, but it still worked for me,
I liked that they went more dance with this, but still gave us the usual PVRIS style edge that they have to them. Every time I hear a PVRIS song it always amazes me, because they’re just great, the way they put things together when it comes to their music is fascinating, I can’t explain it…..I just love them!! I thought the lyrics were great, Lynn’s voice is always great!!
It was actually very interesting the way she decided to go about singing this song, a lot of people, including myself, expected to hear that intensity power that she normally, not always, but most times has to her voice, you know that aggressiveness that you would normally hear from her, however we didn’t hear that style to her voice in this, which again was very interesting….
Her soft voice though too is lovely, I wasn’t expecting her to keep her voice in the middle though and when I say middle, I mean as leveled as she had it, but it was nice, I really enjoyed it!!
To me I still think she does give us that soft and intense voice in the song, it’s just not as fully turned up to how she normally would have it which is nice, I like that she did it differently this time around, it doesn’t always have to be fully on, it can be evened out at times and even if this song was full on, it would still be great, because PVRIS is great!!
However way Lynn decides to sing her songs, doesn’t really matter to me because i’m going to enjoy it either way……you know, I don’t think i’ve heard a PVRIS song I didn’t like……hopefully it stays that way, but if it ever came down to the point where I came across a bad PVRIS song…..i’d express it, but so far they’re songs have been pretty good and i’ve enjoyed each one, but yeah those are my thoughts for PVRIS’s new single Death Of Me!!
Now I did write something on their music video as well, after I listened to the song, but I don’t think it’s really that interesting so I think i’m going to leave it out of this post, I might post my actual notes from my journal about the song and music video later, probably on my social media…..maybe, we’ll see, but that’s all my thoughts on the song.
Definitely go and have a listen to their new single, it is pretty catchy, the groove to it is really great as well and I think some of you might enjoy it, maybe not all, but some of you might who knows……i’ll leave it just in case you’re curious and want to it hear it: Death Of Me (Lyric Video)
Be sure to go and watch the music video for it as well, PVRIS tend to have a way with their music videos, there’s always some kind of special meaning behind it, to where, I wouldn’t even begin to be able to tell you it…..it’s something you’ll have to see yourself to figure out and come up with your own interpretations for, I couldn’t come up with anything, but it was very interesting i’ll tell you that, but I liked it!! Death Of Me (Music Video)
If you’re wondering the best way to listen to the song, I would suggest, watching the lyric video for it first so you can follow the lyrics and then go and watch the music video after, so you can see how it works with the song and maybe try to interpret the meaning behind it, that’s how I did it, but you could listen to it any way you want really, it’s just a suggestion.
I hope you’re all having a good day and doing alright and I hope you guys enjoy the song and music video, thanks for reading!! ^_^
Here I have a song that I haven’t heard for a good while, i’ve just recently started listening to it again, i’ve listened to it today actually, it’s still as good as I remember…..the song that i’m talking about is called Whatever Love Means and it’s performed by a UK band by the name of Lux Lisbon.
Now i’ve been a fan of theirs as well as their music for quite some time, although it’s been a good while since i’ve last checked them out and heard any of their new material, which I probably should look into, I mean it’s been a long time since i’ve kept up to date with them…….
They’re a really good band these guys, they’re not really well known not globally anyway, i’m sure they’re well known in their hometown and that, but even though they aren’t that big, they still are very talented!!
They have a whole lot of great songs, such as Demons You Show, Memento Mori, Bullingdon Club and so many others…..Whatever Love Means has got to be one of my all time favorites from them (along with Demons You Show and Memento Mori) I really admire the way they write their songs, it’s like nothing i’ve ever heard before……
I know that i’m always talking about writing styles, especially when it comes to music (it’s my favorite to talk about) it’s just amazing when you’re listening to a song and you get to listen and hear the way it’s come along and analyze the different writing ways of an artist.
With Lux Lisbon the way they write their music is definitely worth admiring, I can’t quite describe their writing style, each song that they give us is different to the last, it’s amazing really!!
Whatever Love Means, is one of those songs that talks upon the topic of relationships and giving it a chance, even though you’re not sure of the way it could go, you’ll also hear in the song Stu (lead vocalist of the band)
Sing about trying to hold in the feelings of when you know you’re feeling something stronger when it comes to liking someone, but not being able to express those feeling due to the words unable to find themselves, so even though you know you’re feeling strong feelings, you would rather pretend it doesn’t mean anything then have to let your true feelings out, that’s my take on the song anyway, I could be completely off for all I know……
Although the lines to the lyrics “Come on words don’t fail me, cut off my tongue and hurt like hell” and the lines “Words are so cheap, they just cut so goddamn easily”makes me think it could be that,
However there’s also the lines “Take out your heart and see a hole in your soul where it used to be” that part of the song makes me think that it’s the opposite to what I think the song is about……
This song I know is on relationships, but the way it’s written can make you think of it in different ways, meaning wise……i’m actually getting the sense right now that the meaning to it could also be about actions speaking louder than words, if that’s the case the lines “Words are so cheap, they just cut so goddamn easily” makes much more sense, either way, the songs great,
I would definitely recommend giving it a listen, it’s a really good song and the bands pretty great too!! I think the best thing about Lux Lisbon is the way they bring their voices together, the female vocalist (which I had to go and find her name) Charlie is her name, I like her voice, i’d have her in the category of unique voices, it’s not overly strong, but it’s still great!!
The way Lux Lisbon’s vocals combine with one another is pretty amazing, it really does work well, getting to hear not just their music, but also just the way they work well vocally and they way they write their songs……it’s a treat, a very well done kind of treat. Here’s the song if you’re interested in checking them out: Whatever Love Means By Lux Lisbon.
I’ll have to check out their latest songs soon, i’m sure i’ve missed some, i’m interested to see, well hear, what they’re going to be like, i’ll get back to you and let you know my thoughts once i’ve found out……in the meantime,
I’ll leave some of their other songs that i’ve mentioned, in case you like this one and want to check out their other ones, if you have a different interpretation on what you think the song could be about, feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think of the song as well ^_^
Hey there everyone, okay so i’m not sure how long this is gonna be, it might be very long, but it might not be at the same time, we’ll just see as we go along. I hope you guys are all doing well, today I wanted to discuss and review an album, i’ve never reviewed an album before, only certain songs, but I thought i’d give it a try and just see how I do with it, today we’re gonna be discussing Paramore and their latest album After Laughter. Now for those who don’t know Paramore well they’re a band of course, their genre of music goes from: Alternative rock, Pop punk, Pop rock ect….
Obviously when you’re a band or an artist, you tend to want to change your sound if you’re feeling you want to mix it up a bit, instead of always sticking to the same one, now before we talk Paramore’s latest album, I just want to kinda do a little backstory on them just so you can learn more about them, so without further ado, let’s talk a bit about Paramore: Paramore’s first debut album was All We Know Is Falling which came out back in 2005 and featured songs like Pressure, Emergency and Conspiracy, now i’ve heard Pressure and I believe i’ve heard Emergency not sure on Conspiracy, but at the same time I feel I might’ve heard it once or something i’m not sure.
Their 2nd album Riot! came out in 2007 one of the famous songs from that album is the good ole’ classic Misery Business, as well as other songs like CrushCrushCrush, That’s What You Get and one of my favorites When It Rains. Now even though Paramore had made two albums and all these lovely songs, it wasn’t until their breakout hit Decode to where they started to become well known and very popular. Decode featured on a popular hit movie that i’m sure all of you are aware of and if you’re not then don’t worry it’s okay, you’re not really missing much in my opinion, but the song appeared and was one of the featured tracks off the famous movie Twilight.
Everyone (mainly teen girls) loved Twilight, if you haven’t heard of it again don’t worry about it, but if you have, you know what i’m talking about here, there was even teams made from that movie, not kidding!! Twilight came out in 2008, it’s about this sparkling vampire guy named Edward, a teen girl, I think her name is Bella and a werwolf name Jacob, there’s more to the movie of course, but i’m not gonna go into it because this is about Paramore, I just thought since I brought up Twilight, might as well give you a brief description on it.
As I said before Decode was one of the featured songs off there and was actually very popular too, I remember coming across that song because the music video was on and also because it was one of those songs that was just everywhere, no matter where you went, you would be sure to hear that song. I can’t remember exactly, but I believe I wasn’t too fond of the song at first and i’ll be honest I think I might’ve judged it quickly because of the fact that I didn’t like Twilight (still don’t really like Twilight) I do however like the song decode now though. Decode also appeared on Paramore’s 3rd album I believe, Brand New Eyes, along with the songs Ignorance, Playing God and Brick By Boring Brick making it’s debut in 2009. They have more albums, but those are just a few of them that I wanted to talk about, but let’s get on to their new/latest album After Laughter and talk about the songs.
These are the songs off the album with small descriptions to them, all the songs are about Hayley Williams and her bands personal life:
1. Hard Times– Is pretty self explanatory, it’s all on Hard times and how even though we have them we don’t ever hit rock bottom (that’s an actual line in the song)
2. Rose-Colored Boy– This one is a little hard, but I think it has to do with someone who’s always so optimistic, while everyone else isn’t.
3. Told You So– This ones all about having those people who love to look for and call you out on your mistakes and love the whole Told you so line that Hayley sings about in the song.
4. Forgiveness– Is on the personal side of town, Hayley sings about not being able to forgive someone that hurt her really badly.
5. Fake Happy– Is a very clear song about pretending you’re happy when you’re not, but also knowing that you’re not the only one feeling that way.
6. 26– Is about keeping hold of what’s left of your hope and happiness the older you get, so this is one of her reflective songs.
7. Pool– Is metaphoric dark love song, you’ll have to hear it to understand it
8. Grudges– Pretty self explanatory, it’s all about letting go of grudges that we hold against someone.
9. Caught In The Middle-Is what I would probably say to be a reflection songs on Hayley early days in Paramore as well as her life in general.
10. Idle Worship-Is a song to all of her fans where she expresses that she shouldn’t be looked at as an idol.
11. No Friend– Is a letter she wrote to her fans, but it’s not sung, it’s spoken and she doesn’t speak the words, but a friend of hers does and it’s pretty interesting, different, but I like it.
12. Tell Me Now– Is…….i’m actually gonna let this one speak for itself, so give it a listen if you’re curious.
Now a lot of people complain about Paramore’s new sound and everything, but in all honesty I like their new sound, it’s different, but good different in my opinion. I think what it is that people don’t like about Paramore sound is the fact that’s it’s all poppy sounding now and I get having a favorite artist or band and knowing them from when they first started and being so used to the music they use to make, we all would love to have our favorites stay with the same thing, but at the same time if they feel they need to grow and want to experiment with other sounds then who are we to say they can’t.
These artists and bands make music not for us mainly, they write their songs from personal experiences that they share with us and maybe it’s different to how they use to do it, but if they decide they want a different sound then they have every right to change it up, I mean it is their music, we aren’t in any position to demand they stick with the new sound or old sound at all. If we really love that said band or artist we will grow with them and their music without hesitation, plus I always feel that sometimes it’s good to change it up as well as giving things a chance before judging it right off the bat……..I like their new sound, but that’s because I like Paramore and again if they felt in their hearts they needed to change something with their music then you gotta trust and embrace them on their sound, even if you may not like it.
Also if you think that these songs are just pop songs really listen to the lyrics, just because a song is upbeat doesn’t mean that the lyrics don’t have a deeper meaning to them, this whole album is upbeat with the exception of 26, Tell Me Now & Forgiveness (theses are the songs I consider to be not so poppy, but still great songs) The lyrics hidden behind the poppy dance music are actually very deep and dark when you really listen to it.
It’s all about reading between the lines, with this album and I love it, i’ve become very obsessed with this album and I just heard it the other day, some of my favorites are: Fake Happy, 26, Hard Times, Tell Me Now, Rose Colored Boy & Caught In The Middle, these are the songs i’m constantly playing over and over, although I love the whole album in general, it’s great, but Paramore has always been great, even with the sound change they’re still an awesome band, but that’s just my opinion.
Let me know your thoughts on After Laughter, have you heard it and if so what are your favorite tracks from it!?
Hey there everyone, hope you’re all doing well, today I want to talk music and the artist and song that i’d like to talk about today is Sara Bareilles and her song She Used To Be Mine. Just to give you guys a heads up, I actually wrote this post a couple of days ago, but didn’t really get around to finishing it, until now. I had the song in my head for two days and so I thought, let’s talk on it and while we’re at it, let’s see if we’re able to interpret the song as well.
So to kinda introduce Sara Bareilles a bit, just in case you aren’t completely sure on who she is, Sara is a musician well a singer/songwriter, you might have heard a few of her songs before, she had this one song that was pretty popular back in the early 2000’s called Love Song. I think that was actually her breakout hit, but i’m not sure, so don’t quote me on it. You might’ve also heard Brave which is another popular song from her, i’m sure there’s a lot of songs that are very well known, but for those of you who have heard the songs or they sound familiar to you, well she’s the one who sings them, in case you didn’t know.
She’s also an actress, but is known for musicals mainly, i’m not sure if she’s been in movies or anything, but I know that she has starred in a couple of Broadway musicals before. You might be aware of one, the most recent musical that she’s been in is called Waitress, I think she’s a writer to that musical, I don’t think to the play, but I believe she wrote a few songs for it.
She of course has her own music, I have two of her albums…….well one is her album and the other one is the soundtrack to the musical Waitress, the album that I have is called The Blessed Unrest which came out in 2013, you can find the song Brave on that one and as for the other song that I mentioned before, Love Song can be found on her album Little Things which came out in 2007, there’s a whole lot of other albums and songs that she has, but those are the two that I thought i’d talk on a bit since those are the two songs that most people might know from her.
Moving on though to the song that inspired me to write this post, now if you didn’t know or maybe you did, the song Used To Be Mine comes from the musical Waitress……..now i’ve never watched Waitress, but i’ve been wanting to watch it ever since I heard Sara Bareilles was gonna be apart of it, but it would only be for a short time and every time I would think of checking it out……I would always miss her, but I found out a few days ago that she’s coming back for a few more shows next month and will only be there until February, so I still have a chance to go see the musical and see her as well in it, I heard that it’s very good, so I really want to check it out.
Let’s go on with the song shall we!? Used To Be Mine is one of my favorite songs from Sara Bareilles, it’s a very beautiful song, when you hear it, it just grabs you and pulls you in, at least that’s what it does to me when I hear it. The lyrics are very deep and let’s not even forget the piano that brings it all together as well as the other instruments with it………..I can’t even describe it, it’s just amazing, we’ll just say that!! The song is just great as a whole and Sara’s voice with it, just brings the song to life in a way that……..is just hard to explain, it’s like………I don’t know how to describe it, all I can say is, you really feel the song and the emotion that she brings to it, if you haven’t heard the song, listen to it, really listen to it, you’ll know what I mean when you do.
Now I know that everyone will most likely interpret this song in many different ways, which is expected when listening to a song, even if the artist themselves tell you exactly what the song means, you’ll always have your own meanings for it. When I first heard this song, i’m sure it got to me, I can’t really remember my actual reaction of it, but every time I hear it now, the lyrics, reading it and the song in general, gives you that feeling of woah because you connect with it right away and for a lot of people like myself it’s relatable.
I was originally gonna break down the lyrics to this song, but I decided instead I want to let it speak for itself, looking at these lyrics, there isn’t any other way to interpret them. I tried to break these lyrics down and I was having trouble doing so and that’s why I would rather the lyrics do the speaking then me try and break them down and my words end up all over the place you know!? That being said, my interpretation on this song, my meaning for it, is completely, different to it’s actual meaning. It might be the same, but it’s also very different………..In the song she’s pretty much reflecting on the way her life is and looking back on who she once was, compared to who she is now……..from the lyrics you can see that the reflection that she’s expressing, she isn’t all too fond of the way things are going, but also from a different angle you can also see the emotions that she’s feeling, is more on the scared side of town and being confused and just overall thinking about everything that has happened.
In the chorus you can see that she is aware of all the flaws that she carries with her from being imperfect, to saying that, although she says that she’s good, she isn’t truthful about her actual feelings, she’s her own worst enemy when it comes to wanting to get things right and even though she knows that she needs help and is broken inside, she won’t let people know that, because to her it’s being vulnerable and she’d rather pretend that she’s fine then have people see that she’s hurting and unhappy, so that’s the first part and chorus (Hook, to be more technical) of the song.
So this part of the song, i’m not even gonna break it down or interpret it, at least not all of them, certain parts I will, but only to interpret what I originally thought it was about. As you can see there’s a lot more emotion put into this part and you can probably figure out what it’s about or maybe you already know because you’ve heard the song already, but i’m not gonna tell you what the actual meaning to this song is, because I want to see if you’re able to figure it out if you don’t know what the actual meaning to it is.
This part of the song always makes me want to get emotional, in this part of the song, it picks up and becomes a lot more intense to where you really feel it, you don’t even have to listen to it to feel it, just reading these lyrics, if you’re like me and love finding out the meaning to songs and pretty much everything else, you feel it……….not just the song, but you feel for the writer of the song as well, because they went out of their way to write this powerful, emotional and touching song that just leaves you speechless, they didn’t have to write any of it, but they did because although it was extremely personal, they still felt they needed to share it, which is incredible.
Now here’s the part where I tell you my interpretation on the song, well certain parts of the song that is and what I thought it mean’t. In the second verse, if you look at the lyrics……..there’s a part in it where she talks about, the way life does things and how it presents you with something or someone in this case, pretty much throwing you off which is why she says to herself that if she could, she’d go back and change a couple of things and have it play out a different way to how it turned out to be.
In that whole part, you can kinda pick up that she’s self reflecting, whenever she sees and feels that she’s different and is completely disconnected from her old self in a way. She sees this new version of her and is having a hard time relating and embracing it in a way, which is why she sings the lines “You’re not what I asked for, if i’m honest, I know I would give it all back for a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two, for the girl that I knew” Those lines right there, are one of the lines I relate to and i’m sure a lot of you do too if you know the song.
I’ve changed a lot this year and I can’t tell whether it’s good or not, for me it’s half and half, but I know that a lot of us go through a change that we weren’t really expecting and sometimes we change and become a whole new person, which we know means that we’re growing and coming into our own in a way, but sometimes it’s hard because when you’ve been a certain way for so long and something or even a few things start to change with you or about you, it’s like you’re meeting and seeing this whole new person, but you aren’t exactly sure how you feel about it.
Being someone you don’t recognize, when you thought, you knew the kind of person you were, automatically you’re gonna want to go back and change a few things, but you know that you can’t, so it’s like you’re completely stuck with this new version of you that you really didn’t ask for and even though, you try to get back somehow, you feel deep down somewhere that, no matter how hard you try, you’re not gonna get that version of you back, at least not in the same way you always had her or him.
The last part of the song that I want to talk about is the part where she sings: “She’ll get stuck and be scared of the life that’s inside her, growing stronger each day, til it finally reminds her, to fight just a little and bring back the fire in her eyes, that’s been gone, but used to be mine” Now this part always gives me goosebumps and sometimes leaves me emotional, because I relate to it so much for a reason that is hard to explain, I love that line, it’s one of my favorites in the song, it’s just one of those lines that speak to you on a deeper level and that’s why I love this song so much, because there’s certain parts in it that I feel and connect with emotionally.
The actual meaning to it, knowing it now, when you hear it, it makes sense and you won’t be able to see it as anything else as much once you know the actual meaning, but for me when I first heard it, I interpreted it in a completely different way to how it is originally, the meaning I took from that part is a very personal one, but overall I looked at the song as her singing about self reflection as well as self discovery.
It’s amazing how you can listen to a song and even when you find out the actual meaning to that song, we still create our own interpretation for it. I can see why a lot of artist when you ask them what’s the meaning to a song that they’ve written, a lot of the time they won’t say because 1. they know even when they tell us the meaning, they know that we’ll just come up with our own and 2. sometimes their songs don’t really have a deep meaning behind it, sometimes the song just comes to them without having a specific backstory on it and if there is one, it’s just a random one.
That’s why a lot of them just say they’ll leave it up for interpretation so they won’t have to give it away or sometimes it’s just too personal that they would rather have people come up with their own meaning then have it be explained. So that is all I have for this post, let me know in the comments below, what your thoughts are on this song, have you heard it and if you have, feel free to share your interpretations on it.
