Now Playing: Death Of Me By PVRIS (Aug 7, 2019)

I guess we’re having a PVRIS theme today, because I can not get their songs out of my head, this morning when making toast and coffee I was singing they’re song Holy to myself and now i’m finding myself humming to their song What’s Wrong…..so with that, looks like i’ll be writing about them today, lucky they recently came out with a new single, so I think i’ll take upon this opportunity to give my thoughts on it and talk about them a bit.

Now just to give you guys a heads up, I kinda already went and listened to the song this past Sunday night and wrote down my thoughts to it in one of my journals as I was listening to it, so this is going to be one of those song review kind of posts, everything that I wrote down in my journal,

Majority of those notes and thoughts will be in this post, I might change some stuff as i’m going along that I hadn’t written down already, adding stuff to it and maybe changing certain things as well, I don’t know, but as i’m writing, it should come together, but yeah just a heads up on that!!

I won’t stall anymore, kidding that was just an introduction, but on to my thoughts and reaction to the song, in written form…..hope this works…..

Quick Note: It took me 3 weeks, after the release of the song just to listen to it, again 3 weeks!! I waited to hear this, yeah……alright….

Review starting in 3…2…1….LET’S GO!!

Song starts: We’re in the beginning of the song and I didn’t expect it to start off as a dance song…..a bit confusing, knowing how a PVRIS song is, I wouldn’t have expected it to have this kind of groove to it…….i’m intrigued with it though so far…..(reaction 21 seconds into the song)

Went back to the beginning to re listen properly, because the start of the song reminded me of their other song Holy from their album White Noise, listen to the start of it carefully, it’s in the kick of the drum to where it sorta sounds like it, but after a while you start to hear it come into it’s own sound, it’s pretty cool, it’s like a good memory……(reaction 1 second into the song, going back to the beginning)

Quick Journal Note: I think at this point I paused it, because in my journal I wrote nervous yet excited as I was listening to the song and I was……then I talked about how I haven’t heard any of the Jonas Brothers new songs yet,

Mind you they’re one of my favorite bands that I grew up on and their songs have been out for a good few months now, so you’d think that’d be the first band i’d listen to……nope I went and checked out PVRIS new song instead of theirs, that came out 3 weeks ago……priorities!!

Don’t worry I already decided that i’m going to be listening to them finally sometimes this week, maybe Friday so everyone calm down, relax it’s cool!!

Back to the song……I had to re look at my notes to figure out if I was in the beginning or middle of the song, it’s still the beginning because I went back before…..(reaction 26 seconds into the song) liking the lyrics so far, normally I tend to focus on the lyrics to a song, because it’s the part that I feel draws you in, but with this song, my focus is on the rhythm and beat of it, which is new……it’s good though…..we’re at the chorus now and THERE GOES PVRIS!!

I knew the PVRIS usual style would kick in at some point, it only took close to a minute in…..which is fine i’m not saying that’s wrong. (reaction 56 seconds into the song) I like the second verse line of the chorus “One man’s hell is another’s god, it’s all about perspective or parallax.”

Their writing style continues to get me, like seriously how do they do it!? I don’t know (reaction 1.27 seconds into the song) like the bridge part, real groovy, I really like the build up towards the next lines involving the chorus it just comes in nicely, love it!!

From this point I didn’t really write anything else about the song, because it had finished, I did write my overall thoughts to the song though, which I will share in a moment, right abooout……..NOW!!

OKAY, my overall and final thoughts of the song…..I didn’t like it…..no i’m kidding, my whole written reaction would literally counter me saying that…

Final Thoughts: I liked it!! I mean it, I have no bad words to say on it, was it different to what i’m used to or was expecting from PVRIS!?

Hell yeah, but it’s still good!! Now that being said I know a lot of people may not feel the same way and not like it as much or maybe they will who knows, my thoughts on the song however is that I genuinely enjoyed it very much, again it wasn’t what I was expecting, but it still worked for me,

I liked that they went more dance with this, but still gave us the usual PVRIS style edge that they have to them. Every time I hear a PVRIS song it always amazes me, because they’re just great, the way they put things together when it comes to their music is fascinating, I can’t explain it…..I just love them!! I thought the lyrics were great, Lynn’s voice is always great!!

It was actually very interesting the way she decided to go about singing this song, a lot of people, including myself, expected to hear that intensity power that she normally, not always, but most times has to her voice, you know that aggressiveness that you would normally hear from her, however we didn’t hear that style to her voice in this, which again was very interesting….

Her soft voice though too is lovely, I wasn’t expecting her to keep her voice in the middle though and when I say middle, I mean as leveled as she had it, but it was nice, I really enjoyed it!!

To me I still think she does give us that soft and intense voice in the song, it’s just not as fully turned up to how she normally would have it which is nice, I like that she did it differently this time around, it doesn’t always have to be fully on, it can be evened out at times and even if this song was full on, it would still be great, because PVRIS is great!!

However way Lynn decides to sing her songs, doesn’t really matter to me because i’m going to enjoy it either way……you know, I don’t think i’ve heard a PVRIS song I didn’t like……hopefully it stays that way, but if it ever came down to the point where I came across a bad PVRIS song…..i’d express it, but so far they’re songs have been pretty good and i’ve enjoyed each one, but yeah those are my thoughts for PVRIS’s new single Death Of Me!!

Now I did write something on their music video as well, after I listened to the song, but I don’t think it’s really that interesting so I think i’m going to leave it out of this post, I might post my actual notes from my journal about the song and music video later, probably on my social media…..maybe, we’ll see, but that’s all my thoughts on the song.

Definitely go and have a listen to their new single, it is pretty catchy, the groove to it is really great as well and I think some of you might enjoy it, maybe not all, but some of you might who knows……i’ll leave it just in case you’re curious and want to it hear it: Death Of Me (Lyric Video)

Be sure to go and watch the music video for it as well, PVRIS tend to have a way with their music videos, there’s always some kind of special meaning behind it, to where, I wouldn’t even begin to be able to tell you it…..it’s something you’ll have to see yourself to figure out and come up with your own interpretations for, I couldn’t come up with anything, but it was very interesting i’ll tell you that, but I liked it!! Death Of Me (Music Video)

If you’re wondering the best way to listen to the song, I would suggest, watching the lyric video for it first so you can follow the lyrics and then go and watch the music video after, so you can see how it works with the song and maybe try to interpret the meaning behind it, that’s how I did it, but you could listen to it any way you want really, it’s just a suggestion.

I hope you’re all having a good day and doing alright and I hope you guys enjoy the song and music video, thanks for reading!! ^_^

All The Love ❤ ❤

Music Song Review/Song Interpretation: She Used To Be Mine By Sara Bareilles (Inspired Post) (Dec 14, 2018)

Originally Written Dec 9, 2018

Hey there everyone, hope you’re all doing well, today I want to talk music and the artist and song that i’d like to talk about today is Sara Bareilles and her song She Used To Be Mine. Just to give you guys a heads up, I actually wrote this post a couple of days ago, but didn’t really get around to finishing it, until now. I had the song in my head for two days and so I thought, let’s talk on it and while we’re at it, let’s see if we’re able to interpret the song as well.

So to kinda introduce Sara Bareilles a bit, just in case you aren’t completely sure on who she is, Sara is a musician well a singer/songwriter, you might have heard a few of her songs before, she had this one song that was pretty popular back in the early 2000’s called Love Song. I think that was actually her breakout hit, but i’m not sure, so don’t quote me on it. You might’ve also heard Brave which is another popular song from her, i’m sure there’s a lot of songs that are very well known, but for those of you who have heard the songs or they sound familiar to you, well she’s the one who sings them, in case you didn’t know.

She’s also an actress, but is known for musicals mainly, i’m not sure if she’s been in movies or anything, but I know that she has starred in a couple of Broadway musicals before. You might be aware of one, the most recent musical that she’s been in is called Waitress, I think she’s a writer to that musical, I don’t think to the play, but I believe she wrote a few songs for it.

She of course has her own music, I have two of her albums…….well one is her album and the other one is the soundtrack to the musical Waitress, the album that I have is called The Blessed Unrest which came out in 2013, you can find the song Brave on that one and as for the other song that I mentioned before, Love Song can be found on her album Little Things which came out in 2007, there’s a whole lot of other albums and songs that she has, but those are the two that I thought i’d talk on a bit since those are the two songs that most people might know from her.

Moving on though to the song that inspired me to write this post, now if you didn’t know or maybe you did, the song Used To Be Mine comes from the musical Waitress……..now i’ve never watched Waitress, but i’ve been wanting to watch it ever since I heard Sara Bareilles was gonna be apart of it, but it would only be for a short time and every time I would think of checking it out……I would always miss her, but I found out a few days ago that she’s coming back for a few more shows next month and will only be there until February, so I still have a chance to go see the musical and see her as well in it, I heard that it’s very good, so I really want to check it out.

Let’s go on with the song shall we!? Used To Be Mine is one of my favorite songs from Sara Bareilles, it’s a very beautiful song, when you hear it, it just grabs you and pulls you in, at least that’s what it does to me when I hear it. The lyrics are very deep and let’s not even forget the piano that brings it all together as well as the other instruments with it………..I can’t even describe it, it’s just amazing, we’ll just say that!! The song is just great as a whole and Sara’s voice with it, just brings the song to life in a way that……..is just hard to explain, it’s like………I don’t know how to describe it, all I can say is, you really feel the song and the emotion that she brings to it, if you haven’t heard the song, listen to it, really listen to it, you’ll know what I mean when you do.

Now I know that everyone will most likely interpret this song in many different ways, which is expected when listening to a song, even if the artist themselves tell you exactly what the song means, you’ll always have your own meanings for it. When I first heard this song, i’m sure it got to me, I can’t really remember my actual reaction of it, but every time I hear it now, the lyrics, reading it and the song in general, gives you that feeling of woah because you connect with it right away and for a lot of people like myself it’s relatable.

Here are some of the lyrics to the song:

It’s not simple to say
That most days I don’t recognize me
That these shoes and this apron, that place and its patrons
Have taken more than I gave them

It’s not easy to know
I’m not anything like I used be, although it’s true
I was never attention’s sweet center
I still remember that girl

She’s imperfect, but she tries
She is good, but she lies

She is hard on herself
She is broken and won’t ask for help
She is messy, but she’s kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine

I was originally gonna break down the lyrics to this song, but I decided instead I want to let it speak for itself, looking at these lyrics, there isn’t any other way to interpret them. I tried to break these lyrics down and I was having trouble doing so and that’s why I would rather the lyrics do the speaking then me try and break them down and my words end up all over the place you know!? That being said, my interpretation on this song, my meaning for it, is completely, different to it’s actual meaning. It might be the same, but it’s also very different………..In the song she’s pretty much reflecting on the way her life is and looking back on who she once was, compared to who she is now……..from the lyrics you can see that the reflection that she’s expressing, she isn’t all too fond of the way things are going, but also from a different angle you can also see the emotions that she’s feeling, is more on the scared side of town and being confused and just overall thinking about everything that has happened.

In the chorus you can see that she is aware of all the flaws that she carries with her from being imperfect, to saying that, although she says that she’s good, she isn’t truthful about her actual feelings, she’s her own worst enemy when it comes to wanting to get things right and even though she knows that she needs help and is broken inside, she won’t let people know that, because to her it’s being vulnerable and she’d rather pretend that she’s fine then have people see that she’s hurting and unhappy, so that’s the first part and chorus (Hook, to be more technical) of the song.

Here’s more of the lyrics from the song:

It’s not what I asked for
Sometimes life just slips in through a back door
And carves out a person and makes you believe it’s all true

And now I’ve got you
And you’re not what I asked for
If I’m honest, I know I would give it all back
For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two
For the girl that I knew

Who’ll be reckless, just enough
Who’ll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up
When she’s bruised and gets used by a man who can’t love
And then she’ll get stuck
And be scared of the life that’s inside her
Growing stronger each day ’til it finally reminds her
To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes
That’s been gone, but used to be mine
Used to be mine

So this part of the song, i’m not even gonna break it down or interpret it, at least not all of them, certain parts I will, but only to interpret what I originally thought it was about. As you can see there’s a lot more emotion put into this part and you can probably figure out what it’s about or maybe you already know because you’ve heard the song already, but i’m not gonna tell you what the actual meaning to this song is, because I want to see if you’re able to figure it out if you don’t know what the actual  meaning to it is.

This part of the song always makes me want to get emotional, in this part of the song, it picks up and becomes a lot more intense to where you really feel it, you don’t even have to listen to it to feel it, just reading these lyrics, if you’re like me and love finding out the meaning to songs and pretty much everything else, you feel it……….not just the song, but you feel for the writer of the song as well, because they went out of their way to write this powerful, emotional and touching song that just leaves you speechless, they didn’t have to write any of it, but they did because although it was extremely personal, they still felt they needed to share it, which is incredible.

Now here’s the part where I tell you my interpretation on the song, well certain parts of the song that is and what I thought it mean’t. In the second verse, if you look at the lyrics……..there’s a part in it where she talks about, the way life does things and how it presents you with something or someone in this case, pretty much throwing you off which is why she says to herself that if she could, she’d go back and change a couple of things and have it play out a different way to how it turned out to be.

In that whole part, you can kinda pick up that she’s self reflecting, whenever she sees and feels that she’s different and is completely disconnected from her old self in a way. She sees this new version of her and is having a hard time relating and embracing it in a way, which is why she sings the lines “You’re not what I asked for, if i’m honest, I know I would give it all back for a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two, for the girl that I knew” Those lines right there, are one of the lines I relate to and i’m sure a lot of you do too if you know the song.

I’ve changed a lot this year and I can’t tell whether it’s good or not, for me it’s half and half, but I know that a lot of us go through a change that we weren’t really expecting and sometimes we change and become a whole new person, which we know means that we’re growing and coming into our own in a way, but sometimes it’s hard because when you’ve been a certain way for so long and something or even a few things start to change with you or about you, it’s like you’re meeting and seeing this whole new person, but you aren’t exactly sure how you feel about it.

Being someone you don’t recognize, when you thought, you knew the kind of person you were, automatically you’re gonna want to go back and change a few things, but you know that you can’t, so it’s like you’re completely stuck with this new version of you that you really didn’t ask for and even though, you try to get back somehow, you feel deep down somewhere that, no matter how hard you try, you’re not gonna get  that version of you back, at least not in the same way you always had her or him.

The last part of the song that I want to talk about is the part where she sings: “She’ll get stuck and be scared of the life that’s inside her, growing stronger each day, til it finally reminds her, to fight just a little and bring back the fire in her eyes, that’s been gone, but used to be mine” Now this part always gives me goosebumps and sometimes leaves me emotional, because I relate to it so much for a reason that is hard to explain, I love that line, it’s one of my favorites in the song, it’s just one of those lines that speak to you on a deeper level and that’s why I love this song so much, because there’s certain parts in it that I feel and connect with emotionally.

The actual meaning to it, knowing it now, when you hear it, it makes sense and you won’t be able to see it as anything else as much once you know the actual meaning, but for me when I first heard it, I interpreted it in a completely different way to how it is originally, the meaning I took from that part is a very personal one, but overall I looked at the song as her singing about self reflection as well as self discovery.

It’s amazing how you can listen to a song and even when you find out the actual meaning to that song, we still create our own interpretation for it. I can see why a lot of artist when you ask them what’s the meaning to a song that they’ve written, a lot of the time they won’t say because 1. they know even when they tell us the meaning, they know that we’ll just come up with our own and 2. sometimes their songs don’t really have a deep meaning behind it, sometimes the song just comes to them without having a specific backstory on it and if there is one, it’s just a random one.

That’s why a lot of them just say they’ll leave it up for interpretation so they won’t have to give it away or sometimes it’s just too personal that they would rather have people come up with their own meaning then have it be explained. So that is all I have for this post, let me know in the comments below, what your thoughts are on this song, have you heard it and if you have, feel free to share your interpretations on it.

Music Song Review/Song Interpretation: Car Radio By Twenty Øne Pilots (Inspired By Accidental Blogger)

This post was originally written Nov 30th (Last Day Of November)

Hi there, so today I want to touch upon something different, today I wanted to talk about a song and kinda breakdown the lyrics to what my interpretation of it is, this might seem familiar, I did one on one of my favorite bands (PVRIS) with their song Same Soul and I wanted to try it again, but with a different band this time. I got this idea from another blogger that I recently found by the name Accidental Blogger and in one of the posts that I read from him, he talks about this duo band that i’m sure most of you might know, but also may not know at the same time and that duo band go by the name of Twenty One Pilots.

They’re pretty well known and some might even say that they’re underrated, others might say they’re overrated, I don’t know everyone has different opinions, but whether you love the band, hate them or just aren’t the biggest fan of theirs, but don’t mind them, you do have to give them some credit, because they really know how to make music and their specific way of making music involves dealing with internal issues like mental illness such as depression and other serious things as well.

Now I wouldn’t call myself a Twenty Øne Pilots fanatic or anything, but I do like them, as well as enjoy their music, at least the ones that i’ve heard anyway. In the blog post that I read, he talked about how Twenty One Pilots are his escape when it comes to music, he listens to them when he’s having one of those days and also on regular days when he’s not, so to pretty much sum up the post, he just really loves the band in general. He said the reason he loves TØP is because and i’m gonna quote exactly what he said “Their music is realistic” now hearing their music you probably would agree with him, I mean I sure do…….listen to some of their lyrics to their songs and tell me if they aren’t deep and real with it too, just saying!?

Anyway moving on to the title of this blog post, let’s talk the song Car Radio and try our best to breakdown the lyrics to it. Now i’m only breaking down a certain part in the song because it had me really think about it when I read it properly, the lyrics are:

“Oh dear, I don’t know if we know why we’re here
Oh my, too deep – please stop thinking
I liked it better when my car had sound
 “

There’s a whole lot more that go with these lyrics, but the reason I want to talk on this one is because when I read it, I was a little taken back, not because of the lyrics, but because when you really think about it after reading that line, you might find yourself thinking “wait why are we actually here!?” and then it might cause you to go into deep thought mode wondering why………but to put that thought aside and really sit with these lyrics, trying to break them down and understand them better, in this whole song if you’ve ever listened to it or if you’ve never heard it before, the whole premise of it from my interpretation is pretty much well…….how do I explain it in a way that would make sense!?……..

Okay think of it this way: You’re trying to sleep at night, you feel relaxed you start to unwind and drift into dreamland, uhh, but wait!! Your mind has other plans for you and those plans are to stay up and contemplate EVERY. SINGLE. THING. yeah……I know, what I just described is basically what the song is about to me, just one sleepless night only, you’re not sleeping, you’re in a car and you have no radio whatsoever, because someone stole it and now you’re stuck with your own thoughts.

Fun fact actually……well not really it’s kinda sad a bit, but the song actually came to life because the front singer of TØP, his name is Tyler and……well here’s a quote from him explaining it which says……..I was late to class and I forgot to lock my door and when I came back out everything had been gutted and stolen out my car.” So yeah, that’s how the song was born.

Let’s move on to the rest of the lyrics that follow the song Car Radio, this is where it gets super super deeep, because in the song he talks about how, because he has no radio in his car, he’s now left thinking……..and we all know what happens when we start thinking and I mean really thinking. It may start fine, you know you think random things like “hmmm I wonder who was the first person to eat a taco and what was their reaction the first time they had it!? Did they love it or did they hate it!?” Then out of nowhere your mind takes a sharp turn down a dark road and now you find yourself thinking of every thought and emotion you thought were long buried, to only realize you didn’t bury them deep enough……….and other random things too. This whole song, is  filled with all the thoughts you can think of, put together into one song which to me is incredible, when you really read into it.

Now there’s a specific part in this song that I want to talk about a bit, because of how deep it is, I was reading it back to myself to kinda get a better understanding so I could interpret it better and I have no words, i’ll try and find some in a second, but first let’s look at the the lyric that i’m talking about which goes:

I’m forced to deal with what I feel
There is no distraction to mask what is real

I know this is just a short line of words, but those lyrics, that lyric alone, is deep and mind blowing. There’s no other way to interpret that, because just by reading that line………you become speechless like……….when I read it, all I could say was, that’s deep and that was it, you don’t need an explanation to what that means because it’s really clear, I could go into it, but it’ll just end up being a whole new topic and I want to try and keep this post from drifting off.

The writing style that TØP have with their songs including Car Radio like, most people wouldn’t even dare try and cross that line, because it’s just too real, not many people want to go that deep because to them, it’s a very scary place to go, only because it forces you to deal with those demons that we all have inside that we just aren’t ready to cope with……….but Twenty Øne Pilots however, yeah they aren’t afraid to go there, because that’s how they work, that’s the writing style they chose to go with and I feel like that’s why a lot of people can relate to them because their music is so relatable, also their personalities are one of a kind which is probably another reason a lot of people like them so much.

I’ve only observed them once when they won I believe two awards, I can’t remember which award show it was, all I know is that they won twice. I feel, it might’ve been for their song stressed out and also maybe breakout duo band or something, I don’t know, don’t quote me on it, but I remember watching them when it was announced that they won and they could not believe it whatsoever, I think they didn’t even have a speech prepared because they they didn’t think they’d win……..but to touch on their personalities from that award show, you can tell that they aren’t for the fame at all, they’re just all for the music and the way they are, their just chilled guys who are very, very humble and don’t really care that much on making it mainstream, because for them again it’s all about the music, which is great because I love it when you have bands or artists that you can really hear and see how much they care about their work and the music that they’re making, that’s the kind of people I like.

Also I was remembering a part in the award show when they won the second time I think and Tyler made Josh say something, I believe he said something along the lines of “I’m trying to get him to talk more, because he doesn’t talk much” i’m not sure if those were his exact words or if it was close to what he said, but I thought that was funny, also I think Tyler was talking more on Josh talking more when it comes to award shows or something but i’m not entirely sure, but yeah, I think i’m gonna have to look more into TØP, because i’ve really enjoyed talking and writing about them, I didn’t think i’d write this much.

If you want to check out the blog post I was talking about, you can find it here: https://writingmyheartout25.wordpress.com/2018/08/26/music-my-escape/ and while you’re looking at that post check out Accidental Blogger’s other posts and show them some love and support as well while you at it, i’m sure they’d really appreciate it, also feel free to share your interpretations on Car Radio if you’ve heard it in the comments below, thank you and I hope you all have a goodnight/morning and or evening.

All The Love ❤ ❤
