Let’s Talk Shows: Degrassi All Generations (June 26, 2019)

“Whatever It Takes, I Know I Can Make It Through”

These are the words and lyrics to one of the famous shows loved by many, the show people can’t seem to get enough of and the show people want back, that show ladies and gentlemen is Degrassi!!

Starting the journey with The Kids of Degrassi Street we watched and witness the growth of teens transitioning into Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, introduced and welcomed the newer and Next Generation of the Next Class, following them through the highs and lows of their lives while also getting to know each and every character individually.

Some relatable and some not as much, but each one held a story that made an impact most of us would remember. Stories like Joey and Caitlin’s relationship, Spike’s (Christine) pregnancy, Jimmy’s changing life experience, the life of J.T. Yorke and so many other moments and memories from all the generations.

It’s crazy to see just how much this series has grown and expanded over the years with it originally premiering back in the late 70’s with the Kids of Degrassi Street, continuing on up until 2017 with Degrassi Next Class.

Being able to watch all these different generations from the show and seeing how different or similar some of the characters are from the previous timelines of Degrassi is incredible!!

Not only that, but the storylines from the series and the way they were able to restyle some of the topics that were expressed back in the late 70’s, 80’s and even early 90’s, to then bring them front and center for real life generations of this decade, is something worth admiring.

In the times where these topics were building, not many people felt comfortable speaking upon these topics because of how real and sensitive they were, so for the creators and writers of Degrassi to create an environment within a show that tackles, things like:

Teen pregnancy, drugs, mental disorders, self harm, different kinds of abuse and even tough situations like suicide as well as situations dealing with certain disabilities is quite fascinating because it wasn’t something that was seen often.

Now if you couldn’t already tell, just by everything i’ve stated, i’ve been pretty interested in all thing Degrassi lately and when I say interested I mean obsessed, i’m not ashamed to admit it, what can I say it’s a good show, that you can’t help, but get invested in.

Whenever I watch an episodes of Degrassi, I have this thing where I like to read the comment section and one of the comments had someone saying how even though Degrassi was very popular in Canada (Canada being it’s home place) over here in the states it was pretty much like a rare gem, because we didn’t really get or have shows like Degrassi, the formula it had to it and everything about it was just……

Let’s just say it’s hard to put into words……it was just different, different in a good way, it was that kind of show that coming across it, you’d be really curious to what it was about and you couldn’t help, but be drawn to it in some way, it’s just a really well put together kind of show.

You could tell just how dedicated the writers and everyone was with this show or series shall I say and how much it meant to them. You can always pick up on that kind of thing, even if shows like Degrassi aren’t really your thing, it’s nice knowing you can still appreciate everything about it!!

Watching every episode of it so far has been pretty intense firstly, but also very interesting and entertaining as well……the intense are of course the episodes and how they’re laid out and the interesting is everything else, with the different styles all the characters had to them, Spike with her famous hair, Joey and his fedora and Hawaiian shirts, all the different personalities from all the generations, just everything!!!

The 70’s and 80’s of Degrassi High and Junior High have more of a darker tone to it compared to The New Generation and New Class, however with New Generation and New Class, you also get those serious topics that you would from Degrassi High and Junior High, just in different ways of course.

When it come to The Kids of Degrassi Street however, well they start you off with the basics of when you’re a kid, some examples: A new family moves to town, a friend moves away, having crushes stuff like that…..Kids of Degrassi Street also tackle serious topics, but it’s not as full forced as it would be with the other versions of the show, which in a way is a good thing, because it would be really odd if it was like the other versions.

I always found decades like the 70s, 80’s and 90’s so fascinating……when you look back to those time whether you were apart of it or you just learned about it, you’ll notice a lot of different things from those decades compared to now, that you don’t really see much of anymore.

For example: The choice of clothing everyone wore, you’ll notice how comfortable, yet unique they were, which I love by the way!! Then you have the different sayings, such as Broomhead (which is another way to call someone an idiot) however I think it was in the show where that saying was used a lot…..not really sure if that was a popular saying back then……

Side Note: I noticed in the show that the word alright was used a lot, but I know that has nothing to do with the 80’s, just felt like pointing that out.

Compared to the different styles of today though and the different sayings and slangs they used, you’ll realize just how much everything’s evolved from within the time span of those times…….it’s just mad how much it’s changed since then!! I always wondered what it’d be like to experience the 80’s and 70’s and that in certain ways, with having to wear the kind of clothes they wore, speaking the way they did, even the school dances……

I know that’s random, but seriously what was that like!? The hairstyles they’d have too…..it’s just interesting to think about you know!?

I was born mid 90’s, but I didn’t really get to embrace the 90’s like how most people did, I know the fashion choices were pretty out of this world though, but other than that, didn’t really get to embrace it properly. I did get to experience part of the 80’s once…….that was something……sorry i’m getting a little lost in the nostalgia of decades that I haven’t really experienced.

The closes i’d say to me experiencing decades like the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s is the music really, I love old music……speaking of music, how about we talk more on Degrassi a bit, specifically it’s theme songs, both Degrassi High and Junior High’s theme were quite something, in the best way of course!!

At times at least……it’s actually pretty funny when you think about, because ahhh man was it both great and not at the same time……when you watch those old episodes of Degrassi High and Junior High, you’ll notice just how upbeat and peppy the theme was, I mean you have this very serious show that is Degrassi right and you would think because of the way the show is, the theme would fit with it……NOPE not at all, it’s really odd……

Knowing the kind of show Degrassi is and going back and hearing the theme that it had at one point and how joyful it was, you would think you were watching a whole different show until it starts.

There’s so many different moments in certain episodes where it’s extremely sad and very serious and you get to the ending of them, thinking the theme would stay put and not be heard for that specific episode……yet it plays anyway and you find yourself listening to a very cheerful Degrassi theme, while saying to yourself, “I don’t think that was the best way to end the episode or the episode could’ve done without the cheerful music at the end”

It was great though, I loved it, but it just came in so awkward at times……at least it was very catchy and let’s not forget they did bring us a new and improved Degrassi theme, now we can sit back in nostalgia and relive all the amazing Degrassi themes, how lucky are we!?

We even get to relive that famous bonus track by The Zit Remedy (a.k.a The Zits for a short while, until they went back to their original band name)

Final Thoughts: Now at season 3 of Degrassi: The Next Generation, I gotta say I don’t really know what made me want to watch the older versions from back then, but i’m glad I did look into them, because not only was it nice watching all those versions, but it gives you this whole yearbook on how the show came together, having everything make so much more sense compared to if you just watched it from Next Generation or New Class…..

Going back and looking to where it all first began, you then get bits and pieces added to the rest of the Degrassi series where you get to know all about the previous characters and what they were like and how they did things and just so much more and I think that’s great!! Watching the episodes now and seeing characters like Spike, Snake, Joey, Caitlin, Mr Raditch and others from the Degrassi High and Junior High series……

Seeing how they are now in Next Generation, is both crazy and pretty cool at the same time!! You’ve watched them as one personality for so long and then you see what they’re like older and it’s like, you can’t believe it……some you can see have stayed the same in some ways and there’s others who have changed a bit, but still have a bit of that personality that they did back in Junior High and Degrassi High and it’s just mad!!

I love how looking back at those series you can think to yourself “ahhh so that’s how that happen, I get it now” it makes you feel like you’re apart of it and shows like that stay memorable.

Message In A Bottle #2 (June 22, 2019)

Hey there, I see you’ve found me!! To whom ever maybe reading this, how are you!? Hope you’re well, I know we don’t know much about each other, but I do hope things are good and they’re going well for you. I gotta say i’m not really sure if i’m getting this whole message in a bottle right…..now that I think about it, is there a right way to write one of these!?

Maybe there is and i’m probably just confused about the whole thing, I think you’re just meant to write something on the whim, i’m sure that’s how islanders did it, I don’t think they sat and thought “hmmm i’ll just write a thoughtful message to someone and see what they say” If that was the case, they probably would’ve stayed on that Island…..

Plus these messages did take a while to reach someone, so they needed to make their messages count if they wanted to get back and away from whatever Island they were on, or who knows maybe they did write something thoughtful, but also made sure to let whoever was reading it know they needed help getting off the Island they were on…..now i’m wondering how exactly all those messages in a bottle were written!?

Don’t think they were this long and if they were, those people sure had a lot to say when writing their message.

Writing Prompt Friday: Message In A Bottle (June 21, 2019)

If someone told you to write a message and put it in a bottle to send out to sea, what would you write!? Maybe you don’t want to send it out to sea, but instead just wanted to write something and send it out a different way out of curiosity to who would find it and read it.

Would you even write anything and if you did would you send it out or keep it to yourself to read or leave alone!? We all have something we want to say, sometimes it’s hard to say it however, because it’s either, we’re not really open to express what it is that we feel, sometimes we think, if we say what’s in our heads it’ll be too much or it won’t be understood……

We may feel when saying something it won’t make sense and maybe we’re just rambling on about things that not even we understand once it leaves our mouths…….so with that a lot of the time we freak out and just don’t say anything because it feels easier, yet…..at the same time, it’s harder because you know you want to say something and you know it’s there, but for some reason it doesn’t come out and if it does, it doesn’t come out right…….

Which will then a lot of the time cause us to freak out more and from there we end up beating ourselves up for it and think “that was stupid” adding more and more pressure causing our thoughts to only expand in the worst things possible, asking yourself a million one questions, over analyzing and just getting so stuck in your head that you wonder, if you’ll ever get out!?

You might also wonder and ask yourself if whether you’re doing things right or just a whole lot of different questions that float around, causing your brain to just lose it’s own thoughts………tell me though, the picture above, what do you see when you look at it!? Probably nothing too special i’m sure, it might just be a random throw together creation and you might be right, but maybe some of you do see something to it, who knows.

When I look at it, I see waves just casually flowing by, but also something else I can’t, quite put my finger on at the moment……what kind of feeling do you feel when you look at it!? Maybe some of you don’t feel anything looking at it and maybe there’s a few that do feel something with it, maybe it’s the way you’re looking at it, everyone does sees things differently.

So what did you write!? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, it’s called a message in a bottle for a reason right!? Maybe it’s personal, embarrassing, or makes no sense just like this probably…….

If you do want to share however, i’ll listen.

Don’t Forget To Take A Breath (June 19, 2019)

It’s been a while since i’ve written down my thoughts…..kinda, not my actual thoughts just a simple write down, i’m sure you know what I mean.

*Takes a deep breath and releases* Maaan am I mentally all over the place today, it’s so easy I tell you haha…..all you have to do is let your mind go in a million one places and there you have it, scattered thoughts everywhere!! That’s how you do it, in case you’re wondering how to easily stress yourself out……it’s always like that ain’t it!? So easy to drive yourself mad, yet so difficult to keep yourself sane and calm…….

I made this here creation as I like to call them, a long while ago…….I was meant to use it after I made it, never really quite did though, I guess I felt it wasn’t the right moment or something I don’t know…..funny, I think my reasoning for making this was because I was having a day like today.

As you can probably see in the picture, there’s some words in a spiral, but they aren’t just any words, they’re lyrics to one of my favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands who I actually wrote a post about the other day. The name of the song is called Take A Breath and it’s by of course…..One Direction…….I mean the Jonas Brothers *nervous laughs*

One Direction had 3 more years left before they went on the X factor, auditioned and would then later be formed into a band…..there goes my brain huh!?

Also you guys probably think I planned that, but trust me, I did not….. I went to say the Jonas Brothers and ended up saying One Direction instead, to myself, out loud, as I was writing it…..not kidding……and if you think it’s a one time thing, no that’s how my brain actually is at times, can’t help it.

Back to what I was talking about though…..this song is off their 2007 self titled album, but on the deluxe version of the album, it’s a really good song, it’s an early 2000’s kind of song of course, a little upbeat, but not too pop sound-ish, it has some edge to it, at least I think it does anyway…..if you’re a Jonas Brothers fan you’ll know what i’m talking about.

It’s one of those tunes that you listen to not only for that nostalgia feeling, but also when you need that reminder to breathe and relax a bit you know!? Try not to worry as much, it helps for a moment, but with the way our brains like to be, it can take a lot of reminding……

For me singing the lines, “Don’t forget to take a breath” plus the rest of the chorus, as well as the whole song……it works for the moment, plus it’s good to sing, I mean we all know there’s nothing like singing our favorite songs to help boost our moods a bit and make us feel a little better.

Let’s Talk Music: The Jonas Brothers Plus Lines, Vines And Trying Times Album 10 Year Anniversary (June 16, 2019)

So today (yesterday now) I learned that it’s been 10 years since one of my favorite bands (The Jonas Brothers) released their 3rd……sorry 4TH (had to look into it to be sure) studio album………10 YEARS!? wow, that’s insane!! You know when an album (movie, show, ect) comes out and you remember the day it came out like exactly and how you felt that day!?

Yeah…..I can’t say I remember when this album came out or how I felt when it did, I knew some of the songs from the album and I remember watching the music videos for Fly With Me and Paranoid all the time on Disney Channel, those were the days……..

The first time really listening to Lines, Vines and Trying Times was when I got the album when attending their 2009 world tour (my first ever live concert btw) it’s a real good album, might be one of my favorites, apart from A Little Bit Longer, that’s gotta be one of my all time favorite albums from them.

If I had to put their albums together in a row and tell you which ones were my favorite in order (based off the ones I have of course) it’d be in this order:

  1. A Little Bit Longer
  2. Jonas Brothers (Self Titled Album)
  3. Lines Vines & Trying Times

Now on one of my social medias (Instagram, where I saw it originally) they asked what was one of our favorite songs from that album and for me that’s a bit of a hard one, because well, I have a few……..but instead of stressing myself out with choosing just one song, i’ll add my top 5 favorite songs from the album……shouldn’t be hard!!

Top 5 Favorite Lines, Vines and Trying Times songs:

Side Note : I totally nailed it, wasn’t hard one bit!! ^_^ (pretty sure I sat looking at the track list for an 1 hour, could’ve been less for all I know, it wasn’t 5 mins though i’ll tell you that)

Okay so after some time, I think I have a good list here…..

  1. Fly With Me
  2. Poison Ivy
  3. Much Better
  4. Paranoid
  5. Don’t Speak

Maaaan that was really hard to list, *let’s out a hard breath* so much nostalgia hit me the minute I saw that track list…….I seriously didn’t think it’d be that hard deciding, out of these 5, there were only 3 songs off this album I was certain about to be on this list, I even had to go and make a top 10 list in one of my journals just to sort this out simply, not kidding…..

13 songs off that album and I struggled to write down a top 10 list!!? Top 5 that’s okay, because it’s not easy trying to crutch all your favorite songs into one small list, but a top 10 list!? You might as well call me a pathetic poor unfortunate soul with that one…..in all fairness though I did say it was a good album haha…….goodness……10 years!? I still can’t believe it’s been that long already, time sure does zoom by doesn’t it!?

You know what I realized!? Lines, Vines and Trying Times released June 16, 2009 right!? This was their last full studio album since they’re split or shall I say “hiatus” as a band, they did release a couple songs back in 2013, but it was only 2 single releases with their songs Pom Poms and First Time.

These songs I believe were supposed to be on their 5th album titled V, but never really saw the light of day due to creative differences in where they wanted their sound to go as a band and one of the reasons they’re split happened in the first place.

Fast forward 10 years later, since this album released, plus the two singles they also put out before their split……BOOM the Jonas Brothers are back, we get new music and EVERYBODY’S freaking out and you know I was one of them. Kevin, Nick and Joe without warning had the internet on a fury the day it was announced they’ve returned!!

You know how HUGE that was seeing that!!! I don’t think anyone thought they’d ever come back as a band to be honest, I always had hope they would because The Jonas Brothers are one of my all time favorite bands, they were the first band I got into and will always be my favorite no matter how old I get!!

I tell you though when they split back in 2013, it was pretty shocking, I remember hearing that and being pretty bummed out about the announcement, however, reading into it I did understand the reasoning for it……when you’re in a band or a group, things like creative differences or having different views on things will sometimes lead to some kind of friction.

Majority of the time there’s going to be a situation where someone in a group or band might want to try and branch out to work on different projects or want to see what else they can do, whether it’s with music or something completely different and not everyone apart of that group will entirely agree on it and from there it may get a bit messy.

With the Jonas Brothers……from trying to understand the reasoning behind their split and why, because they weren’t agreeing on how they wanted their sound to go with their music and of course everything else surrounding the split, you learned with that, it was slowly effecting the relationship between all of them, not just as a band, but also as real life brothers and when that starts to happen…..things start to fall apart and nothing works and i’m sure, for them, at the time, in those moment……

It was either break up as a band or break up as brothers and because they were as close as they were, they knew they couldn’t let whatever was happening between them ruin their close brotherhood and they’re whole family…….sooo, they chose to look at the bigger picture and take a break from each other for a while and you know what it worked!!

They surprised us all with their We’re back” announcement and had most of us losing our minds running through all the walls we came across!!

No but seriously, I really think them going off and doing separate things for a while helped them rebuild whatever cracks they had (if there were any) in their relationships and probably some other things, Nick with his acting and music, Joe with his (former) band DNCE and Kevin with his family and a pretty good food app apparently!!

(haven’t actually used it, but i’ve heard good things on it, helps you find places to go when hungry, mainly restaurants I think)

It’s good that they all found success doing different things though, but now that they’re back together, it’s good days, now we can sing to the moon and cheer with our pom poms in hand knowing that JB (THE ORIGINAL JB, YEAH I SAID IT!!) ARE BACK, BABYYYYYY!!! YES!!!

HAPPY 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY LINES, VINES AND TRYING TIMES AND WELCOME BACK NICK, KEVIN AND JOE!!! I know this is late now, but thank you for bringing so many memories in my younger years and for making me laugh and just for everything, you might be able to tell already, but we’ve missed you!!

Now I have to be honest, I haven’t actually heard any of their new music, so i’ve got a few to catch up on, but i’ll get there, i’ll have to brace myself though as I know I could be in for a ride with the new sound, but i’m really looking forward to hearing what they’ve come up with.

Scribble Night (June 14, 2019)

I’m having a bit of trouble naming this at the moment, i’ve been staring at this trying to come up with some kind of name for it, but I don’t know what to name it…… I turned these little scribble design things into flowers because they reminded me of flowers whenever i’d look at them.

Not actual flowers of course, after finishing this here artwork creation, I was trying to figure out what kind of flower they resembled mainly the open ones, the yellow, purple and white ones)

At first I couldn’t put my finger on it, I did think of a tulip, but then I thought nooo, not quite a tulip shape, I had the image in my head, but the name of it wasn’t popping up for me…….

It took me until the next day (today) just to now know what flower it was, looking up different kinds of open flower types, it came down to two different ones, a Tulip (yeah the one I scraped away) and the California Poppy, looking into it more though, i’d say it resembles the poppy more than the Tulip……it might not be, but it was the closest to it that I could find.

Glad that’s sorted and all, however I still don’t know what to name this one……..actually wait, I might’ve come up with one right at this very moment looking at it again……I think it could work, we’ll keep it for now, but if something comes to me later that I like better, i’ll change it…….

Infinite Night…. (June 12, 2019)

Infinite night, make your way to me and show me the brightness of the moon and all of it’s captivating beauty, uncover and unleash the millions of stars and let them shine their light all across the sky……

Infinite night, why are you so cold!? Don’t you know what warmth feels like!? Warmth is the feeling that many crave and admire

It’s the safeness we feel when in the arms of one that we love dearly and unconditionally, to where you never want to leave…..

I guess maybe you like the cold, it’s no wonder you prefer to be alone.

I hope you don’t mind the times where I join you in the night, I know you might not be much for company, but I hope you don’t mind if I say awhile….

Infinite night, I must say, although the day can be quite nice…

There’s no better company that I find more interesting then you, the moon and the stars, I guess it’s the mystery and the quietness that you carry along with you that I like, it can be quite relaxing when your mind is free to roam.

Under The Sea (June 10, 2019)

I made this here creation a couple of days ago, but didn’t really have anything to go with it at the time, I was trying to recreate a drawing I made a while ago with this originally, but it wasn’t working the way I wanted it to, at least not with what I use when making these kind of creations, so I just ended up making something different altogether…..

Looking at this, the first thing that came to mind was the Little Mermaid song Under The Sea, hence the title, I was singing the song to myself earlier and felt it fit well with my artwork. It’s simple and I know there isn’t that much to it, but I think it works for what it is.

I don’t really know a whole lot on Sea Turtles except for they’re able to live to be 100 or more even and that the baby turtles are born on land first and then once they hatch they start to head on out to the sea one their own, which if you really think about it, is quite amazing, I mean how do they know where their natural habitat is right after their born!?

I guess maybe it has to do with instinct or something, it’s incredible how they just know though…..you know it’s crazy two days ago was actually World Ocean Day, now I knew about the day, but I couldn’t remember when it was exactly, I remember seeing it trending, a couple of days ago, but then sorta forgot all about it after a while……

For those who aren’t that aware about it, no worries……just to sum it up for you guy though, it’s pretty much a celebration for the Oceans, it originated back in 1992 (I wasn’t born yet) by Canada and it takes place every June 8th and on this day different people around the world come together and some even volunteer to make sure the beaches and the Oceans are cleaned up and taken care of properly the way they should be!!

The Ocean is a beautiful underwater land, filled with amazing, beautiful, unique and sorta…..okay pretty frightening underwater creatures, without the Oceans we wouldn’t have discovered all the things that we have or heck even the stuff we’re still looking into with it……there so much more to the Sea then we know, everyday there’s a new discovery, some of them we know about and some of them we don’t.

Now i’m not big on big bodies of water i’ll be honest, but it’s still important to make sure the Oceans are safe and cozy (probably not the best word to use, but i’m sticking with it) for the creatures like the Sea turtles and many other underwater creatures that live in it and call it home.

The Ocean has been around for……quite a long time not sure the exact time, but i’m sure it’s been here longer than we have and maybe even longer than some of the creatures that live in it now, who knows…….but looking after the Sea or Ocean (just found out there’s a difference between the two) would really help all creatures living in it sing a better song, I mean i’m sure Ariel, Flounder, Crash and Squirt would really appreciate it.

Pebbles On The Beach (June 9th, 2019)

A walk on the beach, “how romantic” some will say, others might also say there’s nothing like the sound of the waves crashing against some rocks….or feeling the water at your feet and digging your toes beneath the sand, everyone has a favorite thing when it comes to the beach……

You want to know what my favorite thing is!? It’s the little pebbles you find in the sand, I can’t help, but want to always grab a hand full or more and take them home with me. Some might think that there isn’t really anything special with them, but me……they’re my favorite things to collect.

I always would try and find the best ones, from the shape of them, to the colors, to the way they feel when holding them in my hand, most of them pretty smooth, others less, but even with that, I still would go and collect as many as I could find. I never really questioned why I collected them…..

It was just something that I did, I was drawn to them, still am if I see a good one around!! Sometimes we’ll collect things out of being drawn to them and there won’t always be a reason for it, it’ll just be because we like it, nothing more, nothing less, just plain and simple with nothing else to it.

Woodland Mountains (June 7th, 2019)

Deep in the Woodland Mountains, exploration awaits with a special tree at hand, you might think magic is within it, but that is not the case, what is with it though is quite a discovery you’ll have to unlock to find out, how exactly!? Well that is up to you to unfold…..maybe you’ll unlock it with some kind of riddle to solve or maybe a special hunt for something perhaps!?

Each unlocking of the tree different, but all will lead to the same discovery, what kind of discovery you might ask!? Whatever discovery you want it to be, one thing you must keep in mind when unlocking this special tree though is to not expect it to be a great discovery, it might be, but it could also be something completely different to what you think it is…..remember each unlocking of the tree different, but each unlocking the same.
